Default To those who serve our country...

Thanks to all who protect and serve...we DO appreciate it!!

THE FINAL INSPECTION

The soldier stood and faced God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining,
Just as brightly as his brass.

"Step forward now, Soldier,
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To My Church have you been true?"

The soldier squared his shoulders and said,
"No, Lord, I guess I ain't.
Because those of us who carry guns,
Can't always be a saint.

I've had to work most Sundays,
And at times my talk was tough.
And sometimes I've been violent,
Because the world is awfully rough.

But, I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep...
Though I worked a lot of overtime,
When the bills got just too steep.

And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God, forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.

I know I don't deserve a place,
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around,
Except to calm their fears.

If you've a place for me here, Lord,

It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't, I'll understand.

There was a silence all around the throne,
Where the saints had often trod.
As the soldier waited quietly,
For the judgment of his God.

"Step forward now, you Soldier,
You've borne your burdens well.
Walk peacefully on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in Hell."

It's the Soldier, not the reporter who has given us the freedom of the press.

It's the Soldier, not the poet, who has given us the freedom of speech.

It's the Soldier, not the politicians that ensures our right to Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness.

It's the Soldier who salutes the flag, who serves beneath the flag, and whose coffin is draped by the flag.

I would also like to say thank you to all of the men and women in our armed forces for all that they have done. They are fighting over there so we can have our rights and freedoms over here. They are protecting our right to hunt and own bows and guns. As said lots of times by ted nugent "you cant do this in france" Im so proud to live in the U.S.A.

I'd like to thank all the Vets in out great country weather you fought in Combat or kept the home fires burning and stood ready in the same uniform if called upon. I want to remind folks we still have a lot of POW's and MIA"s who are unaccounted for and were seen being captured. Say a little prayer for them and their families once in a while. And also remember the famileys of the brave men and woman in uniform its a living hell for them too. Salute!!! from a retired sailor. Thank you for carring the tourch!

Thanks for the kind words. This thread almost brought a tear to my eye and I love the poem. There is no lie about the last line. It is hell over there. Believe me, there is no worse feeling than knowing someone is trying to kill you.Even though Ihave served my time and now it's up,I can't tell you enough how proud I am to have served in combatwith the men of the 3rd Infantry Division....."Rock of the Marne".And to all that are still inthe middle east, keep your chin up. There will be a better day.

Brushbuster,

Thank you for the thread man. I almost started crying. I am currently serving in afghanistan. I tell my guys about this sight all the time. One of them wants to join so, I am trying to get him on it. We thank people like you who support what we are doing. Hearing the comments that yall make, really make this worth while. Now, go bust a big ass monster and send us some pics of it...Here is a pic from us climbing some mountains over here looking for caves and weapons caches..it was a long day..lol.
