my season might be over..

I think i am done hunting this year. Monday at football practice i was kicking field goals ( before the incident i made a 40 yarder) and i went to kick and my coach who was the holder pulled the ball back and my knee jacked up. I went to the doctors yesterday and she said that i probably tore a ligament and i have to go see and orthopedic doctor on monday to get x rays.and the worst part is i wont be able to play and we play our cross town rival on thursday. the bright side is that i am only in the 10 th grade and have my junior and senior years. just thought id let yall know.

Man, thats too bad. I hope everything goes well and you have a speedy recovery(maybee get back out there to hunt). Why did your coach pull the ball back?

Is your coaches name Lucy? If it is a serious knee injury that keeps you out of the treestand hunt from the ground! There have been several good threads about ground hunting lately. Don't give up the season if you can help it. BTW 40yds for a 10th grader is pretty good! Way to go!

Bonehead move by your coach! His name isn't Mike Tice is it? Sorry to hear about your knee, one bit of advice from someone who also hurt his knee his Soph year, GET IT FIXED. My doctor said I should get mine fixed but I could play through the year and get it fixed in the offseason, for the rest of your life's sake, not to mention your next 2 years of HS football, get it fixed!

That blows. Junk knee here as well. Had an ACL replacement back in '90 and it is about due to have surgery on it again. A couple years ago I tweaked it pretty good and I couldn't bend it for a couple weeks....I added a footrest to my stand and made it into a legrest. Worked pretty good.

LOL @ the Tice comment.

Sorry to hear this. I broke my ankle my senior year of b-ball. That was a bummer.

Definitely, get it fixed now. In short order you can get back to your old self kicking everything you want to -- including that ignorant coaches ARSE. The AH should lose his job for a bonehead move like that and I would hand him all of the medical bills whenyour knee isfixed. I am sorry for what happened to you, but I commend you for the way you ahe taking it.

Good Hunting

God Bless.

Plant leg or kicking leg? Keep your head up, it's not that bad. You'll probably go see an orthopedic specialist and have to have a knee MRI - they'll know more at that time. Even in a worst-case scenario, most knee surgeries are minimally invasive and the recovery times are relatively short (compared to what they were in the past).

You'll retain some mobility, and you'll probably be able to make it out, but you might have to stay close to the car oruse a ground blind or keep your leg immobilized if that's what the doctor orders. Call your local warden, and he may be able to issue you a special permit that would help you utilize motor vehicles, etc... Also, they're "in the know" with a lot of farmers, and he might be able to hook you up with somebody who has a good hunting spot for a guy with a bad leg.

My hunting buddy was an NCAAlinebacker with ACL/MCL injuries to both knees that required surgery (one in high school, one in college). It never kept him out of the woods, so that might help your outlook a bit. He still complains about joint stiffness in the cold, but it hasn't slowed him down.

Either way, that's a tough break, JT - just don't get down on yourself. Sports injuries happen to everybody sooner or later. Just work through it and you'll be fine.

You should be ok. Suck it up and go. I had knee surgery two days before season opener last year, as well as recovering fromcutting two fingers off, and I did not miss a day last year.

Actually, do what you feel is best for you. Im a little different than normal, im use to surgery. I had three knee sugeries in college athletics as well as ankle surgery. I had to redshirt mySr. year, which was good because I was healthy formy last season. Thank goodness I started as a true freshmen.;)

Man that sucks but if you can get a brace and go. Put off surgery for about a month/or twoand rehab until then so you can get out in the woods.

I completely tore my ACL, MCL, and some of my maniscus cartiledge myjunior year, with only a month of the deerseason left. I rehabbed it enough to be able to climb a tree. I killed a deer two days before my surgery, a month after the tear.

But I know knees aren't something to take lightly, you have your whole life to hunt, so you have to make the decision on what to do. If you have to get surgery now, depending on the state you live in, you might be able to get out in the woods after the season.Again, sorry to hear that I've been there, isn't fun.

That's a bummer, but you'll be fine. I blew my knee out a couple years ago, and its ok now. Make sure you get in to a good REHAB CLINIC -- that can make a HUGE difference in recupperation time.

I feel for you. I tore my ACL in 1983 playing football and finally had it fixed this past January. I was in the 7th grade then. I continued playing football that season and up through my Soph year. It gave me problems, but I never let anyone know how bad it was. I ran track and even competed at the collegiate level for one year (until the knee became totally junked). You can live without an ACL, but the surgery was the best thing I ever did. The technology is incredible now. I was playing golf after 3 weeks, so your entire hunting season may not be lost.

Good luck!

Tough luck, it might stop me from playing football but it wouldn't stop me from hunting. Your young, you'll bounce back.

That just goes to prove that you shouldnt dry fire your bow or your leg, I hope it heals fine and doesnt bother you later on in life. Good luck and do what the doctor says.

I find it hard to believe your coach pulled a stunt like that??? Not responsible at all, and he and the school could be liable. Not to mention he hurt his own chances of winning games with your leg.

I do hope your able to get out there and hunt though. Good luck.

WTF!?!?!
I am not a huge fan of sueing people, but if your coach did that, I would sue him and the school into the ground. That is one heck of a way to endanger the physical well being of the student. I would at least report him to the Super or the Board...his keister will be canned in a heartbeat.
Sorry to hear about your injury, but there is no reason your coach should have done that...
Take the appropriate actions as you see fit...but if he were my coach[:@]

RE: my season might be over..

Not to knock your coaches COACHING skills, but what kind of jackass coach would do that to one of his athletes who happens to be his place kicker for one, secondly to a minor who is playing the sport because of his love for it and to support his school, and finally to someone who has a life outsdide of his (the coaches)grid iron gang, who just so happens to hunt. I mean if he was trying to practice a fakefield goal maybe he should have filled you in so you could have anticipated it.

Suck it up and HUNT! I had knee surgery AND a vasectomy 2 days before hunting season and it didn't stop me from being in my tree. You're knee is going to hurt just as bad sitting in front of the TV. You might as well sit in the woods. As long as you have somebody to help you drag your deer, get out there and HUNT!

Take it a step at a time. See what the ortho guy says and let it heal a bit. You may find that once the intial trauma heals some that you get by just fine for hunting and can fix it after the season. I tore my cartlage in two places playing soccer four years ago in september. The Doc said that I wouldn't likely hurt it more so waiting until january would be fine. It was a little shaky so I wore a neoprene brace hunting. You are young and will heal just fine, this type of surgury has come a long way....also, I'm sure your coach feels awful and stupid. I doubt he was trying to hurt you. If you agree then forgive him and move on.

I have a knee problem also,I plan on using a pop up ground blind this year.I will tell you,If my coach did that to me I would either get him to buy me a ground blind or the next kick would be to his flipping head, that is irresponsable for a coach to do to one of his players.
