Gotta agree with Sylvan, a deer can decipher I believe up to 13 scents at any given time. Adding another scent out there really won't do much IMO.

I shower in Scent-Away Soap, wear ScentLok Clothing(which I keep in a ScentLok bag), use Scent Killer, useScent-Wafers Fresh Earth.Been doing that for two years now and haven't been busted since. I think this combo works but it's all personalpreference I guess.

At least theoretically, I think that scent absorbing materials like carbon could work but what to do about your breath? A lot of the scent you send out on the air is a result of the waste gasses expelled from your lungs. Example would be if you've been drinking, you are not going to fool the cops breathalizer regardless of what you are wearing. You won't fool your wife either. The other thought I have on absorbing materials is that deer can detect extremely faint smells just like thepolice dog who can detect drugs packed in plastic inside a sealed suitcase. So unless the carbon absorbs pretty much all of your body scent can the deer still detect it. Anyway still what about your breath?

Now I'm in for 6 scents lol.

I usually spray Earth Scent on myself before I get to my stand, and wash my clothes after every deer I kill. Killed deer taking these two steps, and w/o taking them...I see little difference (in my area). Just don't smell rank, be quiet, and move smooth (although my bro defies all 3 of those and kills nice deer every year).

One HS product I do love is the Estrous Waffers. I've downed two 8 pointers, and my buddy a 7 pointer (in the past 2 years) with their nose touching the waffers. I buy mine in January at Walmart (clearence) for a dollar or two. Fantastic product.

Maybe a different question may be...

If I can not take a shower every morning before I hunt (since I will be camping in a remote area void of showers - etc.), besides washing down with scentless soap and wearing scent less deodorant and wearning Scent Lok clothes, etc.) does it make sense for me to use an earth scent wafer on my hat or for me to spray down with earth scent to mask my human scent?

I believe that it would be better to use it in this situation than not to use it.

Interesting conversation. I have no expertise, but of course, do have some opinions anyways. I agree that cover scents aren’t a magic bullet, but I think they can help. Here’s how: It seems to me that smelling for deer is like other senses for humans, especially hearing. If you’ve ever been to a loud concert, you have trouble hearing other sounds you would normally hear. I think cover scents work like that. You put of a strong earth scent, and it “drowns out” any remaining human scent (which should be as minimal as possible by showering with no-scent soap, using scent killer, etc.). Just like at a loud concert, you may be able to hear what a person is saying if they are yelling (i.e., if you’re stinkin’ LOUD), but you won’t be able to discern what a person is saying if they whisper (i.e., you’ve let a little stink out from sweating by getting up in a tree, but otherwise covered your scent up pretty good).

They're pretty cheap, so I plan to use them for the first time this year. From what I've heard, it doesn’t sound like they do any harm and may do some good, so…

My 2 coppers.

I like the wafers as well. I bought a new canister of them and have them in my pack, and it really smells nice in there. If nothing else, I think that wearing/using these scents can help to dillute the human or at least make it harder to distinguish. Hard to say really, but I enjoy the smell!

ive used the earth cover scent for the past two years along with scent killer works great i think, smells just like dirt...i think it does the job
Same here , and any more I'm inclined to think that they function more as an attractant than a cover . I've used both the wafers and the sprays and had deer come in from downwind .
