arrow groups
 

I am wondering how tight should my arrow groups be at 20 yards. Been shoot my bow sometimes I get arrows off the target area not far maybe 6 inches at most. Part in that is I am not focusing. I am scared that when I am out hunting that I may get a arrow that will hit a leg or something non-vital.

They should practically be touching at 20 yds. If you think you will hit a leg than you shouldn't hunt until your confident where your arrow is going.

Agreed. Many people think if they can get it in a 6" plate every time that, that's good enough. Not for me, nor do I think for others. Do you have to shoot as tight as groups as what I shoot, no but you should never settle for good enough, keep shooting and be the best you can be. You need to be confident, shooting a bow is mostly mental especially once you get the mechanics down. You need to see the shot into the animal/target. You need to will the shot into the animal/taget. If you think you will send it into the leg, chances are, you will.

Keep practicing and until you, yourself are confident to get the job done.

im slamming shafts together at 35yds now. cant shoot at the same spot to get a group. made the mistake yesterday...shooting a 2d cardboard deer cutout(in college..couldnt squeeze a bow, stand, and a 3d in one year) but aiming for the same pocket on it..first arrow..in there but disappeared..ok ill throw another in there since the first one went through my cheap BH target that i bought to get my by this year. 2nd arrow..release CRACK. what in the world did i go and hit now. i was walking around the backyard at all diffrent angles and yardages so my first arrow was at a diffrent angle or it would been another robinhood..but my muzzy slammed into the first shaft..shattered it good too....if it was at the same angle it would been a robinhood. i thought it passed through or i wouldnt been shooting at the same spot. perfect practice makes perfection....practice form etc and get yourself shooting good. then get better then that.

i myself would not hunt if i was shooting 6 inch groups at 20yds. keep practicing..dont wanna wound a deer.....

If your not concentrating or you are bored at shooting targets take a sheet of paper or the back of a target and put a piece of electical tape on it and see how close you can come to it with out hitting it. Use some small balloons blown up to about deer heart size and pop them. Some people find punching holes in a target difficult. I was coached to shoot at swizzle sticks (drink straws)at 20 yds.

Its all about practice and confidence. the more you practice the better yo will be and feel..when i got my bow tuned and set up properly and got good arrows i was nervous that i would loose all my arrows and at $10 a pop, it gets expensive..I have now found that when i come to full draw and anchored i shut my eyes for a split second and then go right to the target and fire..it helps me

Two words...Keep practicing! You have got to practice consistently to be really good at anything in life. Shooting arrows from a compound bow is no different. I've found it helpful to have a friend or hunting buddy watch me shoot for a little while to see if they can pick something up that I could do differently. Often times, it proves helpful and I can get my arrows back where they had been. Just a thought!!

My thoughts on this topic are I expect myself to be able to keep all arrows in the black little 3 in circles on a block target to let myself shoot a deer at that range. Thoughts being that if I can do that under little to no stress with a big buck in front of me I can still hit the 6in circle vitals easily. I also try to shoot as much 3d tournements as I can to try and simulate a little more stress. I shoot with my dad mostly and we are extremely competetive with our shooting so it helps both of us shoot better and adds a little stress to it.
