Gps units
Who makes an easy to use Gps?

RE: Gps units
I like the Garmin eTrex.
I just replaced my eTrax Vista with a Vista Cx. Very intuitive to operate. |
RE: Gps units
I own two Garmins and am completely satisified. I started with a GPS-12 then upgraded to an E-Trex Vista C. I shopped around online and found the Vista under $200 new. Honestly, a Legend or regular Vista would work just as well, just without the luxury of color. Bottom line, Garmin, for me, are easy and reliable.

RE: Gps units
I purchased a Lowrance Explorer a few months back & am less than happy with it. Everybody says Garmin, but NOOO I don't listen, try to live outside of the box & got bit.
Stick with the Garmin I guess because my Lowrance makes me [:@]sometimes. |
RE: Gps units
I used to work for Garmin so of course I have to say Garmin. The etrx series is by far the best bang IMO.
I used to have about 10 different units but I am finally down to a couple. Etrex Vista color is a great unt. |
RE: Gps units
I bought a magellan 3 years ago and hated it. I ended up giving the thing away. I was at Bass Pro last week and would have bought a garmin Etrex but they were sold out of them. They are easy to use and not very expensive depending on what model you choose.

RE: Gps units
I've had a garmin for almost 10 years (first the GPSII plus and then the Etrex Venture) and have nothing but good things to say about them. I had a glitch with the GPSII and the customer service people at Garmin were absolutely awesome to deal with, and they didn't charge me dime one to refurbish the internal lithium battery.

RE: Gps units
I used to work in the Customer repair department, they do a great job in there. We used to get all kinds of GPS that came in as chew toys from their pets. There were some crazy things that were done to them. |

RE: Gps units
I have the little balck and yellow 100 dollar etex and it does everything i need it to do, Wonderful and easy to operate. Only thing you do have to sit down and play with it a few times to understand it but the more you start using it the better... I highly reccomend. My dad has a magellan and he can hardly operate it without the book...

RE: Gps units
My wife bought me a Lowrance (something or another) and it is the most complex, confusing thing I have ever tried to use. Of course I would never tell her that I did not like it.

RE: Gps units
Wheatley,
It sound as if you are not with Garmin anymore????? I am hoping you can point me in the right direction...... My original Vista was broken by out wonderful Homeland Security workers last winter. It was packed in a sock the stuffed in a shoe. I guess I brought it on myself as it probably looked supicious that way. Anyhow, I found it right on the top when I opened my suitcase and the outer screen was cracked. Otherwise it worked perfectly. Later it started to deveop and LCD problem. There would be vertical lines and it would sometimes go blank. I bought the new Vista Cx and I like it a whole lot better, but I wouldn't mind getting this one fixed, if it's worth it, to use as a backup or to give to my Father-in-law since he doesn't have one. Do you have any info on where I can find a repair center? NOt much on the web site. |
RE: Gps units
You must buy an eTrex Vista!

RE: Gps units
I love the Garmin Rhinos that I purchased last year. They are easy to use and the walkie-talkie feature that shows you where the people you are talking to are is very nice for a variety of reasons. The most important of which, IMO, is safety.

RE: Gps units
I believe that all the repairs are still done at the main building in Kansas. You just need to call customer service and get a return number. Back when I worked on them they had a flat rate service charge and not matter waht was wrong with it they would fix it at the same charge. I remember replacing many LCD's that had lines missing or completely black. They will update the software replace the screen and LCD. They will also restore all the waypoints routes and any other information you have in the unit. I would think that it would be well worth it to get it repaired.

RE: Gps units
I like this thread!
I've often thought of getting a GPS. I never new what brand to get. I alsothought they would be too complicated to use. This thread seems to be pointing toward the Garmin's. Now that I narrowed it down to what brand, I just have to figure out which model. My Birthday is coming up. I guess I'll have to start dropping some hints around the house;) |
RE: Gps units

RE: Gps units
I bought a Lowrance 3 years ago and hate it, its too hard to work you have to relean it every year because its so difficult to use, if i ever loose the instructions I'm srewed,,,I will buy one that easier to use next year for sure.

RE: Gps units
Looks like I'm the only one here that likes Lowrance. I had an eTrek and sold it to get an iFinder. The eTrek was easy to use but didn't have some of the features I wanted. I think the iFinder is quite easy to use and has the feature I want. I also use Lowrance sonar/GPS units for fishing so I'm used to the menus.
