Congrats on your first bow elk.

RE: I shot my First elk
Nice job Man. You do not have to explain yourself to anyone. I have hunted elk always on public land and know how tuff it is. Any elk especially with a bow is a great accomplishment.
Wel Done:) |
RE: I shot my First elk
For anyone on this forum that has said negative words about taking this calf, I hope I never hear of you shooting a button buck or fawn doe, same exact scenerio...
Again, congratulations on some good eating. |
RE: I shot my First elk
Honestly, ITRY to fill my doe tag with a yearling doe. Man, they are just so dang tasty. I shot one a couple years ago that still had faded spots on it and the meat had a sweet flavor to it. Some people wanted to make fun of me, but after trying the meat my wife begs me to shoot yearlings. I am serious.
I passed on a calf 2 years ago because of what the other guys in camp might say to me. I wish I had shot it. That would have been the best wild meat I ever brought home. And for those who don't know but think they do, a calf elk is much bigger than a mature deer. |
RE: I shot my First elk
Sounds like some people have been watching too much "Walt Disney." To some it is a calf, yearling, or "bambi" for the PETA posters. However for you it is a trophy.Congratulations on the harvest. Probably be some of the most tender elk meat you ever eat.

RE: I shot my First elk
I guess some people have lost what it means to have a 'successful' hunt...it is not about the size of the prize...its waaaaaaaay more than that.
Congrats on your first elk kill, stinkbelly....awesome job. |
RE: I shot my First elk

RE: I shot my First elk
Take what everyone says with a grain of salt.
Statistics show that more yearlings die, each year, from predators, winter starvation and car collisions, than they do from hunters. AND by taking this animal, you have ensured a clean, ethical kill, with little to no suffering. Was this animal taken in Colorado? If so, you have definitely done them a service. I know they are offering doe tags at a reduced rate, because the elk population had gotten out of control. I believe they want to reduce it by at least100,000 head. You have done your part inbringing balance to the land. Be happy about what you have accomplished! |
