Congrats...the trophy is in the eye of the beholder. One day I hope to be able to shot an elk...living in Texas, it is hard to do! Congratulations once again.

congrats i guess, thats awful its smaller than a whitetail. thats a waste of a tag
If he's happy then it's not a waste of a tag. That just means there's a bigger elk that will live to be even bigger next year.

I personally would have held out for a mature elk but I will not bash a guy for shooting a calf. That's going to be the best tasting elk you'll ever eat.

I too appologize...I did not think before I posted. It was indeed your tag and if your happy with your kill, who am I to judge. I was wrong....I'm sorry.

I find it funny that nobody even asked him why he shot a calf. They're just quick to make snide or downright offensive comments.

I would however like to ask Stinkbelly why he opted for the calf and didn't hold out for something bigger ?

Although at page 4 or 5, my post will likely be buried.

Congrats on your elk by the way!

I shot my first elk on Sept 6 at 3pm.
Congrats on your 1st!
I remember my 1st whitetail with a bow a 40lb doe. I remember how I felt, It did not matter at that time how big it was as long as got it!!
So does most everyone on this board? They remember there 1st?
Not everyoneidia of a trophy is the same.
Some on here don`t seem to understand that.
again Congrats!

Don't worry about all the comments dude. Congrats

I know alot of us have shot fawns before even if most don't admit it. My first bow kill of last year was a fawn that had just lost her spots. I went back two days later and gother momma too.

I Must firstly say congratulations on your success, i know that feeling that we all get when we shoot our first whether its the first of a species or the very first deer shot. An amazing feeling and a hunt you will remember for the rest of your life.
As for some of the comments you have received,
i feel that we all hunt for various reasons and hunt in varying ways. I have witnessed a guy whom has little movement in his legs shoot a fawn and this was therefore his trophy and possibly only a few others feel the same way. WHO ARE WE TO DETERMINE WHAT IS AND WHAT ISNT A TROPHY TO AN INDIVIDUAL WITHOUT KNOWING MORE ABOUT THE HUNT OR THE HUNTERS CAPABILITIES. look at the look on the guys face and see the emotions he is feeling and be supportive and keep another hunter on this site and don't chase him away for because he has shot one fawn as many of us have it doesn't necessarily mean he is going to shoot more. Please give the guy a break and keep personal ethics to oneself. Take care and happy hunting to you all.

How many elk have you killed JNTURK????? Not many I assume, or you probably would'nt be making stupid comments like that. I guess EVERY deer you have EVER killed has been a trophy buck, or mature doe eh???? Apparently you have no idea how hard it is to kill an elk period, let alone with a bow, you should put your brain in gear before you start flapping your lips. If you can't say something positive, keep your opinion to yourself. Or, better yet, find another site to insult people on. Nice elk man, congratulations.
