Default deer rubs

Hey guys,
I was back in my woods today and noticed what looked to be a rub on a tree that looked too big for a a buck rub. I would say roughly 8 inches in diameter. Recently I had been back there and found a rub line going right through where i found this rub. I was wondering if this was what they call a "signpost" rub. Also, there are deer trails going through it and would this be a good place to hunt pre rut? Right now i have my deer cam out by it so we'll see if we get the biggen on it and if so ill post pics. Thanks

What part of the country are you in?

Could be a hog rub! Especially if it's a little lower to the ground than a normal buck rub. Just a thought.

I live in north central MN where there is no elk and no hogs andI have seen several rubs that are 8+ inches in diameter and I have seen rubs that have been worked over every year for 3 to 4 years in a row on a rub line. Also it does not take a huge rack to leave big rubs. I have seen bucks with fairly small racks leave big rubs.

Sure it's a rub. Usually bigger rubs=bigger bucks.
They rub on trees bigger than that, like this one I just found

That doesnt look like a rub really. Looks like you gots yourself a hungry porcupine. Deer rubs do not normally go down to the bottom of the tree. Also does the tree look like that all the way around?

Patchholder, I live up here also. And yes I have seen them on oaks and pines even bigger than 8". So very well could be.
