Sorry Jack is still the best, once Tiger gets his 19th, he will be the best. Yes I see him doing so, but until he beats the best record, he is still not the best. He is the best right now.
Myopia.

I am talking about youth hunters, not professionals, apparently you have no speed.
This thread was not started for youth hunters.........it was put up as a review in a place where you think the top 20% of the best hunters in the world hang out

Where is Atlas Land? Seems like a magical place
NY.

So you just want to give up on the hunter education system and try to help kids (one at a time) learn with pictures from chat rooms??

... and you'd also think that most "bowhunters" would get their bow out sooner than a week before season when they took their last shot over a year ago... Sadly, that's not the case.
That is just as embarrassing..........maybe more.

If we lived in an ideal world? You're right; we shouldn't have to show that.
We have to draw the line somewhere.........expecting a hunter to know the basics is not too much IMO. Is it REALLY too much to ask that kids not sleep through the hunter ed class?.....if they do FAIL them. Sorry, that's life. Why is it impossible to fail hunter ed???.......because you paid for it???........people pay for college and fail it all the time.

Where do you draw the line Greg??.......Should we be showing which end of the arrow is the "pointy" one??

"Where can I sight my bow in"

Never really understood when guys ask this year in and year out. My reply is always the same.........."Is your bow new"? When they say "No" I just say........"Well why would you need to sight it in then".......that would mean you hunted all last year with a bow that wasn't sighted in??

These are of course the same idiots who take 3 shots after 10 months off and run for their allen wrenches like the bow is to blame for their crappy shooting

I've killedever deer I've shot at(9 out of 9) in my hunting careersimply by"shooting just behind theshoulder". I knew that spot would hit the lungs. I also knew where the heart was. But I DID NOT realize the shoulder bone curved so far forward. I also thought the shoulder blade was directlybehind the "meaty" part of the shoulder. The diagram was aneye opener for me the first time I saw it. Yes I did take hunters education - in 1988 when I was 12 and I remember seeing an anatomy chart of a deer. That was a long time ago. Am I an irresponsible hunter because I learned something from this post? I don't think so - I've killed every deer I've ever shot with one shot. But the diagram made me realize that I've been shooting at the rear third of the lungs thiswhole time. It's workedevery time, butI could have a greater margin for error if Iaimed 2" further forward. Thanks for the post.

So you're saying that we should put a disclaimer on the front of every page announcing that this forum is only for bowhunters who already know everything?

I know, I know... you're going to say that they should already know exactly where all the vitals of a deer lie... Someone else might think you should already know something which you don't, which is plainly obvious to them. I for one am glad this forum has been here over the years to allow me to learn all that I've taken from it; I don't want to deny anyone else that privilege.

A lot of states don't require a bowhunter education course -- only a general safety course, and usually revolving around the safe handling of firearms. If we were to follow your adage, then we should throw out the old axiom that there's never a dumb question. You've got to start somewhere, Atlas... and I'm glad this place exists to help those who aren't as knowledeable as you already are.

Where didI say I want to give up om hunters ed? Hunter Ed is a start, butwe should all help out the youth hunters and further their hunting education. We all do not have the hunting skills of the great Atlasman.

This thread was not started for youth hunters.........it was put up as a review in a place where you think the top 20% of the best hunters in the world hang out
Yep I believe top 20%are here, but so are a lot of young hunters. I am glad your a such a fine example of the members on HNI willing to help other hunters out.

Atlas world is not in NY or this planet, it is a very small place, in a very small location[8D]

Myopia describes you to a tee. Perfect word for you Atlas, LOL

It's a shame when people who, with all good intent and purpose provide information, reviews, trail camera pictures,stories--whatever;that is 'relative' to our sport and in return geta door shut in their face.

We are not all 'perfect'--let those without sin, cast the first stone.
I really think that the world would be a better place if we all were to live together and help each other. JMHO.

Of course not........but where does the spoon feeding stop??I don't think ANY of the things I have mentioned is asking too much ofa bowhunter to know.......in fact it is rediculous ifthey don't.

I know, I know... you're going to say that they should already know exactly where all the vitals of a deer lie... Someone else might think you should already know something which you don't, which is plainly obvious to them.
What you are failing to see is that a certain basic knowledge is required to do anything properly. You wouldn't go ripping your computer apart if you had no idea what the parts were........you wouldn't tinker with the brakes on your car if you had no idea what the components were............Would you?? If the answer is no then why would anyone do the same thing with trying to kill a deer with a bow?

You've got to start somewhere, Atlas... and I'm glad this place exists to help those who aren't as knowledeable as you already are.
So am I..........I just wonder what it must look like to an outsider to see a bunch of people who eat, sleep, and crap hunting......basically boast that they LIVE for it...........and then see them reviewing BASIC anatomy of the animal they spend their lives chasing........kinda like seeing Picasso doing a paint by numbers picture.
