Practice Shots?

Hey Guys,

I am now back in the game as I got my cast removed early. Things with the hand can wait until after the season to get fixed. My question is how many practice shots do you guys shoot each day. I have been shooting about 25 to 30 shots a day from different yardages. Is this too many or not enough? Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Mike

In my own opinion practice as much as you feel necessary. Or as much as you want. I think i probably practice at least 50 shots a day but I hunt with a re curve and a compound.

As long as you having fun you can't shoot to much. If it starts to get old than back off for awhile.

depends on the person. I usually don't shoot over 30 shots/day over the summer, at this point I take 1 or 2 a day.

Well said...there are some days that I have shot for four or five hours...there are others I shot for 10 minutes.

I go out just about every day, or at least every other day and shoot. With my compounds, I shoot till im bored with it, which is not limited by fatigue. But with my heavier trad bows, like my 60lb @ 28"recurves, I can only shoot three shots at a time and can only shoot for a limited time before I start screwing up my form due to fatigue. I also like to take little breaks, every now and then, when shooting trad bows so I can recover. That 60% let off with my compounds make a big difference.

I shoot a lot, ainly because I enjoy it so much and partly because I'm working hard on my recurve. I generally shoot about 40-50 shots with my compounds each evening and somewhere around a hundred or so with my recurve. I always quit if I feel myself getting the least bit tired because I don't want to develop bad habits. Also somtimes when I'm home throughout the day, I'll shoot one arrow ever hour or two... It's always the first arrow that counts in the field ya know.

I usually shoot from 9 -30 shots per session a few times a week. I shoot 3 arrows groups and figure the middle is the average POI.

At this point the only one that matters is the first shot! If it takes you 4 or 5 shots to get warmed up you're not ready to hunt. I like one shot practice sessions. Get all your hunting clothes on, climb into the treestand in your back yard, sit still for a while, then shoot ONE arrow (with broadhead) at your 3d target at an unkown distance. You only get one shot when you're hunting - you should practice that way ( of course I'm assuming you have consistent form. If you don't have consistent form this type of practice is not for you).

When you can hit the vitals under these "one shot" conditions with at least 95 percent success you are ready to hunt.
