I have a question about wooden treestands. Don't they make a lot of noisewhen you walk on them?
If you hunt in snowy conditions, one word.....YES!!!! I've been hunting out of home-made ladder stands for years, before finally going to a metalgrating platform to stand on. The snow falls through and you don't get those "little ice balls" on your platform like a wood surface gives you. Then when trying tomake a move, "crunch" one of those little suckers!!
We also build ours out of pressure treated wood to last many seasons.

I once made some portable wooden ladder stands for use at my father in laws camp. They were good as long as you hauled them in with a truck. Commercially made ladders are well worth the money because they come apart for packing and last forever if you take care of them. Sometimes, re-inventing the wheel isn't worth it when all is considered. Buying a quality stand is always worth the money compared to other alternatives. Plus, nothing invites trespassers like a permanent stand saying: "here's a good place to hunt!"

Here is a side photo of the stand. This doesn't tell you much because I had to crop it to get it under 100KB.

Must be a red neck thing...................

I wouldn't hunt out of that if you payed me.....................lol.........

The deer around here will walk way around a tree that is scared from a climber............they see it.

That thing stands out like UFO............landing in the lockness

I wouldn't see a deer out of that for 15 yrs

MAN where I hunt. I may have to push the deer out of my stand just to get in. They couldn't careless about a stand like this. they might be a little leary at first but once it has been there for awhile it's they don't think twice.....

That stand may be VERY SAFE right now cause it's fresh. But there's a really goodreason I only use wood as platforms on my steel tube frames, and won't go in any wood constructed stands......................
