Arm slapping...

well i got out and shot today and i keep on haveing a problem with the inside of my elbow getting slapped. does that mean my holding arm is set wrong. i was shooting very well but the ones that i got slapped on i didn't hit right. how can i end this problem??? does anyone else have this problem. i wear an armguard but the string is hitting me behind the armguard. WHAT AM I DOING WRONG?????

p.s. i also raised my poundage from what i had been shooting. could this have something to do with it.

Sounds like your draw length is too long.

Arm slap is generally caused from a person's draw length being too long.

Try shortening it up a bit and see if that doesn't help. If it doesn't, then you need to adjust something in your form.

i went back out and really took my time and looked at how my arm was and i was locking my bow arm. i started putting a slight bend in it and the problem went away. i wasn't taking my time earlier and that's what caused the problem. thanks for your input hopefully the problem is solved. i have learned that i just need to take my time and pay attention to my form more.

Glad to hear you got it figured out -- and fast!

Just remember, practice doesn't make perfect but perfect practice does.

Sounds like your shooting with your arm being to stiff. Try relaxing your arm a bit and having a little bend at the elbow. I don't grab the grip, I let it rest in the palm, of my hand.A bow strap/sling helps with grip.

The first time I shot my bow I had my arm locked. Two years later I still have the scar, but it only took a couple months to loose that dark purple welt.

Glad you fixed it. Armslap from a bow is like a bad recoiling rifle. Make you worry before each shot. :D
