Is Va. the last state to open season???

They do tell us that the doe days are for buck/doe ratio help. But the buck/doe all around me is prolly 1buck/10doe at best.
Killing a pregnant doe is a dumb way to control deer. They should give us 1 buck any size, and 2 bucks 6point or better. Thats deer managment. And more Va's should get into doe control with DMAP and DCAP tags. I get 11 DMAP's per yesr for the land we own and I use them all, still too many does. Thats why theirs no such thing as a rut in Va. anymore. You can't rattle a buck in here like some states.
The people and the DGIF need to work together, Va is great deer habitat and we could be one of the best states in the country with the right work.
As for no hunting on sunday, I dont even want to get into that one![:@]
I agree on the season opener really though. It's really hot here and the bugs are bad, woods still very green and thick, hard to even scout.

Like Royak said WV is a week later than you guys. I am originally from WV but moved to Central IL in 2003. I have always missed hunting with my family and friends back home in the beautiful mountain country of WV. However, hunting in a place like Ill. that has so many nice bucks helps ease the pain of being away from home.

I thought we had it pretty good here in VA. I can hunt does starting Sept. 15th through the Urban Archery program. The normal season starts on Oct. 7th and then there is a season open to hunt deer through different methods until Jan. 6th. After that I can hunt does, again through urban archery, until MARCH 15th. With all of the bonus permits for does we can take something like 10 or more deer with a deer season of some kind lasting 6 months. I'd say that is pretty good. I will keep complaining about the Sunday Hunting Ban, it's ridiculous!

Personally I don't mind the Sunday ban. I won't hunt then even if it's repealed. I know some of you only have Sunday off and I feel for you but like Christmas day I just don't hunt on the day of rest. Call me old fashioned (and proud of it) but I appreciate the heritage of traditions we have here and don't mind continuing them.
Opening day is first saturday of October. Usually it's almost too hot then too. Sweat and meat spoilage make an earlier date not as attractive to me. NC has an earlier season and I've never desired to go down there with the snakes and bugs. I would love a Sept. hunt out west where it's cooler though.

I love all of the traditions that we have in VA also and I don't think I would hunt on Sunday either. I DO think that hunting should not be singled out as the ONLY endeavor you can't do ona Sunday. Are we lighting the wick of a Sunday hunting debate? LOL!

I am going out on a limb to make my voice heard and get my name into the papers regarding the ban on Sunday hunting. To me it is utterly ridiculous and rather asinine that a man working hard M-F normally only gets one day to hunt (Saturday).
I have also put in a phone call to Senator Stolle (R - VA Beach) who has sponsored a few Senate bills regarding Sunday hunting. I am going to ask him opinion and/or advice on what step to take next.
Virginia needs to wake up and realize how much additional revenue could be generated by including Sunday hunting. I know a few out-of-state hunters nearby, who have told me flat out "I won't hunt in Virginia until they get Sunday hunting".

I used to live in VA and I thought they had a pretty good system. I liked once deer season started you could hunt all the way through Jan. Here in PA they close it for a week between archery and rifle season. Probably the best week of the rut. They also give out way too many doe tags here and let you shoot doe for two weeks during regular rifle season. There are hardly any deer left where we hunt. We can't hunt Sunday here either which really sucks.

I hear ya!. I live in Virginia and I’ve already got hunting fever. Put some 10” galvanized spikes in trees for stands this past weekend and now the wait begins…
I agree on the Sunday hunting. I live in Arlington, and I hunt in Rockingham county, near the WVA border, which is a 2 hour drive. Generally speaking I only hunt Saturdays, unless business is slow!
