Decatur, Illinois?
 
was wondering if any of you illinois guys know how the deer hunting is around decatur? would it be worth going to hunt next year if i draw a tag?

There is a lot of good public hunting ground around Lake Shelbyville,~30 mins. from Decatur

I have an uncle who lives there and he does very well.. Not a whole lot of woods where he is but he does pretty good. Find a strip of woods surrounded by corn fields and an ambush style hunt is a good way to go. There is some public ground as noted and there are a lot of deer up by the lake.
Just watch out for the horse and buggy's cuz your in omish country my friend..

Yes, and no. There are big deer here. But not as good as it is on the west side of the state. The Shelbyville deer see quite a bit of pressure since there is so little public land in the area, so you have to hunt differently than everyone else. Pay close attention to the wind and be very well concealed, these deer know.... "that stinky creature in that tree wants to kill me"
