My head is about to POP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My son got his first real bow today. It's a long bow with 15# pull.

All I can say is 10yds on a 3d target, 4 arrows, 4 dead deer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And yes, that's right. 10yds not 10 paces not 10 feet, 10 yds!!!!

Now I'm ticked!!! I took some pic's of him and his grouping on my cell phone and can't get it to e-mail to me[:@][:@]

He's holding a good 8" group with 4 arrows!

REMEMBER! He's 6 years old and today was his first day EVER shooting a real bow!

I know it sounds like a bragging dad (and it should) but he is really good at everything he likes. I am really amazed by him.

I think at that age, they all do pretty good at the things they like. ;)

Grats though. I am going to approach my 7yr old daughter and see if she wants to try it out.

Thats great....start them early! My son started at 5 years old. When he was 7 years old he was MN State Archery Champ. He shot a 293 with 36 X's. (for those who don't shoot contests...that 53 bullseyes out of 60 shots....36 were in the very center of the bullseye) Needles to say he loves to shoot! Now he's 8 and average score is 296! His target bow we keep at 25lbs.and his hunting bow at 33 lbs. MY daughter just started also......at 6 years old and she is shootingroughly 230 now but she's drastically improving each time we shoot.( I can see another state champ comming on)

They love shooting....start them early.

Good Luck!

Good for him! Sounds like he'll like it even more if he keeps improving as he gets older.

(Sounds like he's got a great dad too).

You really shouldn't have him shooting groups atyour cell phone if you expect it to e-mail pictures to you:D

Actually I meant his first REAL bow as in it doesn't shoot suction cup arrows or foam balls!:D

Congratulations!

Teaching kids is an aweful lot of fun! But, it sure doesn't sound like your youngster needs much help.

My son Josh started shooting right around the same age. At age eight he met up with Byron Ferguson and Josh had him sign a picture of himself shooting his longbow. Byron commented on what good form Josh had. It was very uplifting for him.

Below is a picture of Josh (now 11) shooting a selfbow (35# at 26") that we recently made at the hawkeye bowmen shoot. Never thought we'd have so much fund spending the day making a bow for him. It took us from 10:00AM to 9:00PM to finish it all up.

Below that one is a pic from this spring of a group that Josh shot with this Howard Hill Cheetah longbow (40# at 26").

A couple of things that I have found out with youngsters is to keep things as fun and interesting as possible. They love targets that make noise, leak some kind of liquid, explode (shaken up soda can, ballon) etc. Recently my son has taken a liking shooting at Osama targets thanks to Double Creek :D. If you want to see concentration at its max put up a folded dollar bill and let him have it if he hits it.

Make sure you post some pics, I'd love to see them.
