Pro Archers
 

Just trying to get an idea of how good the pros are (so I know what to shoot for (no pun intended[&:])). Does anyone know the average 3-shot group size of a pro at50 yards (or any other specified distance)?

I know of one lady pro that i talk with pretty regularly can literally bust nocks almost every shot at 40 yards.

For indoor.... 58x 300 (bad day)....60x 300 (good day).

I'm no pro but i can pretty regularly hold 3" groups at 50 yards with my hunting rig and keep them inside 2" with my target gear.

I wouldn't consider myself a "pro" but I have beaten a few "pros" in my heavy 3D days...here's a 40 yard group from a couple weeks ago when I first put my new Viper Predator Pro-MT sight on my Allegiance.



My 50 and 60 yarders usually stay within the outer ring.

Well yeah... who couldn't do that when they draw a 10" circle on their bag target... [8D]

I was shooting 3" groups @ 60 yards the other day. Good day. I routinely keep a 2" group @ 40.

A pro doesnt necessarily shoot much smaller groups than your slightly better than average local shooters. The difference is they can do it for many many arrows in a row. A pro at lets say the stan open in p-burgh is going to shoot a 595 or better out of 600 possible. That is 20 arrows at 40, 20 arrows at 50, and 20 at 60, each worth 10 points or a 10X. Your X ring = 4.5 cm (less than 2"), and your 10 ring = 9 cm (3.5" approx). Tons of people can shoot a 3 arrow group at 50 yards that touch, but can you shoot that same 3 arrow group 20 times in a row within a 2" circle without dropping a single one? How about when there are a couple thousand people watching you and when there is a years salary on the line for you making that one single shot? That's the difference between better than average local shooters and the elite few pros that are out there.

no doubt its consistancy, also in 3d, besides repeatability, its knowing the difference between 42 and 44 yards up a hill. a lot of it is just plain form and practice.

i had a semi-pro shooter over last year. i took him out to 72 yds and didn't tell him how far we were from my bag. he picked a spot on top of the target and put 6 arrows in about a 3" group in thering- and this is only after shooting 3 arrows beforehand. he did end up shooting a flyer eventually - it was about 2.5-3" low - that was his flyer. shot a practice round a couple weeks ago with a buddy who came in 9th in the world in the semi pro division. we shot 17 targets. he was 14 up from the pro stakes.

another aquaintance just took 3rd in the world from the pro stakes - adam hayden - and he's about 5'6" tall - shooting i believe a 26" drawlength - so don't let drawlength discourage you.
