I nearly learned the hard way .

Deer season opened yesterday . My buddy and I don't have alot of spare time these days . We figured we'd go in before day break and pack very light ,,,, very light . The night before - I looked at my handguns thinking "I don't need the extra weight " . I guess some clarity came over me becoase I took along my six shooter . After getting of of course and missplacing the truck. We found ourselves walking along the road for a mile or so (we over shot the truck on the decent from the mountain ) . The only house out there has 2 of the largest dogs I've seen in a while -- and they came right at us . My buddy tryed to keep the one at bay . I fumbled with the snap catch on my handgun . I fired right in front of the dogs , and they turned tail and hauled ass . The funniest thing is that one of the dogs ran right up to the house and took a crap . I guess we were all pretty scared after that . Anyway If I didn't have my side-arm , we both would have gotten mauled . I also learned - I need to work on my quick draw . Good luck out there .

That would be illegal in PA...grey laws...

I'm glad that I read you shot in front of the animals. I'm not sure I'd feel very well about you shooting someone's dog in their yard...I'm glad your not hurt, human interest first and foremost.

A gun is ALWAYS better to have and not need..........then need and not have.

I was in the middle of a street - so I'm sure it was illeagal to discharge a firearm . I'm just glad that they left . Those dogs looked as if they could absorb some rounds .

It's against the law here in Ky to pack a gun in bow season.

Glad it turned out ok. I don't own any handguns, but have considered purchasing one and getting my concealed carry permit. In Virginia we are allowed to carry a handgun with a concealed carry permit during any season, and given that I'll be hunting public land I'm not sure it's a bad idea after what happened in Wisconsin a couple years ago.
