Arrow fletching questions
 

I've been looking at getting an arrow fletcher.What's the difference between straight and offset?
Right now I have a shoot threw arrow rest.Next year I'm getting a fall away rest.
I know that helical spins the arrow faster.Anyone know what degree helical I can usewith a shoot threw rest and still havethe vanesclear?
Do you get tighter groups with helical vanes?
What arrow fletcher would you recommend?
I only use my bow for deer hunting.Thanks for any advise you can give me.

If you want the best fletching jig available, the Bitzenburger will fit that bill. BUT, for half the money, you can get a Grayling and still get great quality. Straight fletch is the vane doing just that....running straight down the shaft. Offset runs slightly across the shaft, if that makes sense. Yes, helical will sometimes help shooting, especially w/ fixed blade broadheads. Spin helps stabilize the arrow, but it's not always needed. And helical twists around the shaft.

Grayling is a fine fletcher for the money I have fletched a few hundred maybe a thousand with mine.I have found that the straight works just fine,it gives about a 2 degree offset.I just refletched about two dozen last night.

i jus bought a jo jan arrow fletcher and no problems so far...but since im fletching straight, i have no idea about the helical degrees and if it is is worth it. Can you even use helical with a wisker biscuit?

That's a common question we get at the shop, and it's a logical one. But yes, it works just fine.

What would be the easiest fletcher to use?
I shoot fixed blade,Muzzy 4 blades.I use GoldTip arrows 5575and have a 29"draw with a 52lb pull.
I'm lucky in that my BH hit the same place that my FP do.

The easiest fletcher would be the Arizona EZ Fletcher...by Arizona archery. I just recently got a Blitzenburger it is an awesome fletcher.

One thing I really like about my Bitzenberger is the metal clamp. If I get a buildup of glue on it I can just scrape it off with a razorblade. I'd be afraid to do that with a plastic clamp.

The biggest problem with the bitz are the instructions! :D I'd probably recomend NOT reading them except to figure out what all the set screws are for. Then tinker.:)

I love my Bitz. It might be more than most people need but I like to experiment with different setups. You can buy a straight, left helical or right helical clamp, whichever one you prefer. Then you can set the offset to whatever you want. You can use it to fletch 3 or 4 vanes/feathers with different nock inserts and change the location of the vanes on the shaft. It's made out of steel so it's practically indestructable and it cleans up easy. I bought mine about 18 years ago and they are still made the same way.

I went with the Jo Jan and I am very pleased with it. I doesn't cost near as much as the bitzenburger..
