WOW, you've never seen a black bear in the wild? That is going to be an incredible experience. Who are you hunting with in Maine? I really hope you have a great trip and I'm in fact a little envious...not of the actual black bear hunt, been there and done that and it's incredible but I'm envious of your whole experience on something so new to you...that's awesome...again, have a great hunt and I look forward to a full report regardless of the outcome....just for a teaser and to get you going...here ya go.

I'm relatively new to bear hunting as well ,but any time i get that bow in my hand's in a hunting atmosphere ,I get a little pumped .I'm just not exactly sure how or what type of emotion's I'm going to be feeling when that first bear walk's into my bait .

I wish you and your bud good luck on your first and hopefully you'll have a great story to share with us when your return.

welp, I got home last night from a 10 day trip to maine empty handed. I seen 2 bear, the first night and the 5th night. the first night the bear was a nice one but offered no shot for a bow. I wasnt about to wound the first bear Ive ever seen in the wild.the 2nd bear was small andI passed on him. but I enjoyed the 30 hrs spent on the stand ( evening hunts ) I had a great time, I seen 2 bear, 7 moose, mountain jays, red squirrels, and heard the coyotes going at it.I dint watch t.v. for 10 days, ate good meals, andenjoyed the fellow hunters.Ive never seen so much wilderness and terrain in my life. out of 14 head hunting 7 took bear. My bud took a 315 pd black bear the first night. another guy took a 317 pd. there was a 245pd also taken. carrol miller at www.bearfactsguideservice.comreally has a nice place and worked hard to make sure we seen bear. out of 14 head 13 people seen bear. ill try and get some pics on as soon as i download on the puter. Reality sucks........lol

Awww crap. Sorry dude! I was pullin' for you!
I agree, though....better to have gone hunting and not killed anything, than to not have gone at all.
Of course that's easy for me to say as I head 3 miles to my tree stand (as opposed to all the way to Maine!).
I'm going on an Elk hunt in Wyoming next year, and It's going to be expensive, and I know there are no guarantees that I'll kill anything...but I'm going anyway!!!
Good luck everyone!
