Rut in Missouri?

What's the Rut like in Missouri right now? I haven't been able
to get in the woods for a couple of weeks and it's about to kill me.
(The downside of being a football coach) I think I may be able to go
Saturday. Hope so.

I have been out the last couple of days and havent really seen any true signs of the rut. A friend of mine watched a nice buck and a smaller buck sparing at last light, so I think it is getting really close.

RE: Rut in Missouri?

You need to be out in the woods now. The rut is just getting started and a lot of bucks are out checking around for does that are coming in early. I saw a nice eight point the other night and he was checking every doe he saw. I usually have better luck in the early rut when the bucks are checking does. When the rut really gets fired up the bucks will find a doe or two and stay with them till they are bred. This leads to all your big bucks laid up in a thicket with a doe for much of the day. Hopefully I will get a shot on a nice buck sometime this week. I've had some shots at smaller bucks, but I like to leave them for the years to come.
