....how are blacktails compared to hunting mulies? I have tags for mulies and elk here in Colorado, so my boss won't see me until October.

Blacktail Huntress, you just sighted your bow in six days before the opener? Are you sure your ready? Doesn't sound like much practice time. Good luck though. I have to wait til Oct. 1 for my opener.

RE: Just about that time!!!
Sept 9th in Georgia! My 3rd year bowhunting whitetails, but have not yet taken one during archery season. There are some does behind my subdivision which I hope to get a shot at this year.
Good luck! |
RE: Just about that time!!!
Dont worry, I use my bow regularly, but i had a new string put on and a new rest, so I had to reset just a little.
Blacktails are really hard to hunt. They are in thick brush and are often nocturnal. Your best time to hunt them is during the rut, in the evening when they finally come out fo the brush to chase the does who are trying to stay away from them in the fields. I tell you, it can take a few years before you actually get one. took me 4 years to get one. Mulies are dumb, they will stand and stare at you while you range them and shoot. Blacktail are often gone before you know they are there. The cut and run at the slightest sound. Stand hunting is a good way for beginners to hunt blacktails, really experienced guys will still hunt them... There are still plenty of cougars and bears around to keep them on thier toes here in the cascades. We get benchlegs too, blacktail/mullie crosses, we have both types of elk too, roosevelt elk and rocky mountain elk. |
