Stand Selection.
![]() Ok, so I was fooling around with Google Earth tonight and decided to see what you guys thought. This is a small portion of the propertyI hunt, more specifically the main section I hunt in September during the early season. The field is cut alfalfa. The blue is a creek. The red circle is where I normally have one treestand. I've taken does out of it before, but never any bucks. The yellow squares are the points where deer generally enter the field. At the inside corner of the field (to the left of the stand site) is a small wild apple tree. If you were hunting this spot, where would you place your stand? |
RE: Stand Selection.
personally, i'd go back into the woods a little deeper and find a creek crossing to set up on.

RE: Stand Selection.
Ya......like me!!! I have all my options covered.
Blue are rifle stands and yellow are bow stands |
RE: Stand Selection.
Dan,
Me personally would place them a little further back. I placed orange markers where I thought would be best. ![]() |
RE: Stand Selection.
I think I would try the point that comes out South of your stand. It seems like a place deer would use to cross the open field.

RE: Stand Selection.
Like many of the other posts said, set up 20-30 yards inside of the woods. Many bucks wait in the timber in the evening while the does move out into the fields. Look for a trail to set up near or a stand of acorns that the deer may feed through while waiting for dark.

Iagree with the last photo with the orange dots by ron3375.You are missing out and not taking advantage ofthe natural funnels in the area. The one on the small bend in the creek is a prime choice.
