I would like to get one of these to work on my bow at the house and to make field repairs. I hate driving to the pro shop (40 miles) every time I want to change a peep, string etc.
Has anyone tried one successfully?
What is the best make/model?

I have the Bowmaster and used it to twist a cable after I shot my string in. Works good and handy to have with you on a hunt away from home.

I almost didn't look, but, ah, the old Bowmaster. Yes, I'm on my second one. The first one wouldn't adjust short enough for these shorter bows. And it works like a dream.
I've got a bench mounted Apple, but it hasn't seen any use in several years. The Bowmaster is a bit slower, but most of my adjustments are not made at home, but out at the range when I'm tinkering.
I have made adjustments and even torn bows down completely with it. One of the better attributes is that there is no way to bend a riser as all the pressure is near the limb tips. I also use the split-limb adapters even on solid lomb bows.
Portable? You can wrap it up and put it in your hip pocket.
Yes, I use mine all the time.

Yep, I have been using one for probably three years or so. They work great and you
can keep it handy in your pack in case you need it. I have had no complaints with mine.

As far as portable presses go IMO you cannot find a better one than the "Bowmender" made by our HNI member "Walks with a Gimp"
You would be well served to have one even as a permanent "bench" press for your own personal workshop.
It's the perfect compliment to todays bow geometry and produces less stress on your bow and it's limbs than actually drawing the bow.
It will easily handle up to and including th emost radical parallel limb angles.
Great press. Love mine.
