I don't really know what he weighed, I spent 2 long hot days in the desert.4 hours of the day the goat was taken were spent on the back of a 4 wheeler, traversing old lava flows. I love hunting antelope, but the hot days and cold nights wear on you fast. Not to mention the 2 thunderstorms that passed with 50 mile an hour winds. It was a good hunt though. We were able to get footage of the entire kill, that was the cool part.

Well, I guesss I can't go to bed yet, my work clothes are washing, yuk, work.
Yes I did put this in the big game also, because a couple people who frequent the boards down there, don't come up here. My main passion lies with elk and I have a few to boot, But I do enjoy other types of archery hunting to fill in the voids. I figured that since my elk camp was packed in over a month ago, I had some spare time to chase some goats with the bow. This buck is an offspring of a massive heart shaped buck that was poached a while back. Glad to see his genes are still around. I was sceptical of shooting this one before I saw a head on veiw of his headgear and noticed that there was quite a bit of horns hooking in. Two bucks had a stare off at our water hole for 3 hours, we took turns watching for the bucks to make their move, meanwhile napping in between shifts. Finally this buck made his move and entered the waterhole from the left leaving me with an 18 yard shot. I had a pass through and the goat did the death sprint for 40-50 yards before doing a header. It was a great hunt, now bring on the bulls, they have been starting to talk more the last week or so, and the cows should start breeding in a couple of weeks. After elk is done, it will be on to late season mulies again. The fun never stops here in Idaho!!!!!!!!!! |

RE: 2006 antelope harvest(pics)
Awesome; simply awesome!
I take it you were in a blind? Permanent, or something like a Double Bull? |
RE: 2006 antelope harvest(pics)
You smoked that dog! Congrats!
|
RE: 2006 antelope harvest(pics)
Greg, yes I was in a blind. A freind of mine gets a ton of credit towards this goat, He hauled a premade plywood blind in, it was a 7 ft cube with wall to wall carpet and lounge chairs. It was like a holiday inn, in the middle of the desert. No matter how nice the blind is, anyone who has hunted goats over water, knows the patience involved and the trechery of the heat. In the morning you want to have on long johns, and by mid day, you will be stripped down to your boxer shorts as the temps in the blind are well over 100 degrees. My best freind was a water bottle and a bottle of asperin for the terrible heat headache I got will sitting out there. I had the experience of watching a meteor shower while sleeping in the great outdoors. Nothing like the desert at night. I love to hear the song dogs howl. That land has been untouched for centuries, and it should stay that way through my lifetime.
