WIND

How do you set up a stand so early when the wind isnt certain? I guess what I am saying is how do you know which way the wind will be coming from opening day?

Pay close attention to the weather channel, www.wunderground.com, and listen to weather radio. My 2 way radios have weather radio on them, and I listen to it constantly throughout the day.

But what if I set up my chain on now and then opening day the wind is totally wrong? I wont have time to move my stand... I am planning on setting it up now and not going back till Sept. 16...

RE: WIND

That's why most guys have several different stands set up. Each favoring a particular wind. If that's the only stand you have, and have no option of hunting another area, say w/ a climber or a ground blind, you have 2 choices. Don't hunt, or hunt, spook all the deer and ruin your spot for the season. It's the gamble we take. Can't control the weather.

RE: WIND

If the wind isn't right I won't hunt a stand, opening day or not. I have more than one stand location so I'll move to another. If for some reason I can't hunt a different stand I'll find a blowdown or some other natural cover and hunt from the ground. don't get over anxious and ruin a spot you worked hard to find!
