RE: One of my set-ups. The ambush is on!

Seems a bit exposed to me. I also don't like to be 5 yards from the trail I expect deer to walk down. I would have backed off a little and gotten hidden more. But hey, that's just me, what do I know. At a minimum, I'd lasso oneof those bushy branches or tree tops near by and pull it down to give me cover I could shoot over or have behind me. You really couldn't be any more in the open there. That close to a trail any down drafts on damp days will screw the setup instantly. BUT THEN, I'm just a little anal about doing an over kill. I just read where it's a short ladder stand. Definitely too exposed at that height. Back off and just give yourself a couple holes to shoot through.

I concur about being right on top of your shooting area... Not trying to bust your bubble (you've probably still got a good spot), but I've learned my lesson about setting up to close to your kill zone. I figure David has too. ;)

I hear ya guys, but the pics are deceiving. The trail is about 25 yards to my left, and to my right is a field (and therub line)about 30 yards away, I'm right in the middle. It's the most exposed stand I have, but still concealed enough I believe.

Pull down one of those bushy limbs and tie it off to your tree. Anything to put your lower body and feet behind or over. Tie it off high so the rope is way above the deer. I usually just use one of those haul lines to tie stuff off. PUt it beside, behind, anywhere you can hide behind it. It only takes a couple minutes once you lasso or hook it with something. Definitely looks closer than 25 yardsfrom 17 feet up,but if you say so Igot to take your word. Sure looks like the trails are right under you. You're rightGreg. In36 years of bow hunting I've made every mistake at least once.[&:]

I agree with David. By fall, when all the leaves have dropped, the deer's view will have you silhoutted bad. It sill looks like a promising area though. If you keep it as is, just don't move a lot.
