Broadheads noisy?? G5 Montec's
WhenI shoot a field tip I don't hear a thing from the arrow but when I shoot my Montec's I can hear it cutting through the air. Not really a whistle per say but more of a psssshhhhh.. lol
They shoot great and I've never noticed it before.. But does anyone else notice this with their broadheads or is this a big no no and why in the world would it be doing it. Oh, I'm shooitng Axis Obsession 400 with the 100 grain Montec. |
RE: Broadheads noisy?? G5 Montec's
are your baldes alined with your fletchings? If not align them and see if that helps, sounds like youre cutting way too much wind.
|
RE: Broadheads noisy?? G5 Montec's
Ya, they are aligned pretty well.. I know some agree and some don't agree with doing this. But I always have true or not..
How do I stop cutting to much wind? |
RE: Broadheads noisy?? G5 Montec's
try another broadhead and see if you still hear it, whats
the cutting diameter of the heads? how many blades? |
RE: Broadheads noisy?? G5 Montec's
The montecs are going to make some noise because of the windows in the blades, whether or not it is enough to scare game, couldn't say, but I wouldn't worry about it too much.

RE: Broadheads noisy?? G5 Montec's
If you want to cut down on cutting wind, lay off the beans.:D
|
RE: Broadheads noisy?? G5 Montec's
[:'(] lol
they are three blade.. They do have the window in them but so did the Muzzy's and I don't remember that noise with them.. Wanted to try a cut on contact broadhead so I switched.. Switched arrows while I was at it also. |
RE: Broadheads noisy?? G5 Montec's
I shoot the same set-up as you and I hear the same noise. My first thought was bitchen! Now you have me a little concerned.:(I notice it with the practice heads as well. Are you shooting Blazers? I just switched to them along with the Montecs.
|
RE: Broadheads noisy?? G5 Montec's
Not yet, I was thinking of switching to the Blazers hoping maybe it would fix the problem but I guess it don't.. :(
I see on their website that someone else asked them the same question but they said that the "old" style Montecs would do that but the new ones should be much quieter.. I DO have the NEW ones as a few people up at the shop asked me.. otherwise I think they are blaming it on the fletchings making noise.. Who Knows.. I might try the Magnus Stingers.. I hear a lot of people raging about them so I'll see what they sound like.. But does anyone else have this problem with the Montecs besides us two? Did anyone find a fix? Or am I just being obsessive.. |
RE: Broadheads noisy?? G5 Montec's
Take a small file or sandpaper and rough up the inside edges the blades that way the air does not a clean surface to pass over which is what makeing the noise.
|
RE: Broadheads noisy?? G5 Montec's
do you mean the inside edges of the windows on the blade and the backs of those windows where air would hit during flight? have you tried this?
|
RE: Broadheads noisy?? G5 Montec's
Yes on the inside edges I’ve been shooting Montec’s for over 3 years now. It will cut down on the noise. It’s a trick I learned with the old Bear board heads many years ago.

try shooting slick tricks
|
RE: Broadheads noisy?? G5 Montec's
That noise could be the poison leaking out of the ferrule [:'(]
I had asalesman try to sell me some G5's today. I told him I refused to support that company. His response was - "Let me guess - WHA? You must be on huntingnet." I bought the last pack of slick tricks instead. |
RE: Broadheads noisy?? G5 Montec's
Quit worring about it. There isn't a deer alive that is afraid of a windy noise. They hear it every day of their lives every where they go.
What they are afraid of is a loud bow. ssssssshhhhhhhh noisedoesn't scare deer but pow, twang, ding, pop, etc... does. |

What did you miss? I'll fill you in:
The WHA stands for World Hunting Association. It is the new professional catch and release hunting league founded by a wealthy real estate executive in which "hunters" will use blunted arrows filled with a tranquilizer to sedate captive deer in high fence private ranches while competing for hundreds of thousand of dollars on TV. The theory is that if we don't actually kill them on TV, the non-hunters and anti-hunters will suddenly love bowhunting and the sport will somehow be better off. It has been a HUGE controversy all summer. What does G5 have to do with all of this? G5 wasnot only the first sponsor of the WHA, but theywere (and may still be) developing theblunt tip that carries thesedative to the deer. Hundreds ofbowhunters, someof them members of this forum, started a boycott of the WHA's sponsors. Afterintense pressure from theircustomers and bad PR, G5 reluctantlyagreedto withdraw sponsorship of the WHA. But only after itthreatened to affect their bottom line profits! That is why I have no respect for G5 as a company and will not purchase their products. Any company that would even consider supporting the WorldTranquilizing, I mean, World Hunting Association is not one I will support. |
RE: Broadheads noisy?? G5 Montec's
I saw something like this last year on Huntingfootage.com last year. A guy video taped him shooting from all three sides and the camera picked up the noise. He then placed it at the target and the noise was not heard. Let me see if I can find the link. I am pretty sure it was those broadheads he was shooting if no maybe the same applies.
|
RE: Broadheads noisy?? G5 Montec's
I was wrong is was the Snuffer SS broadheads. Here's the video. I am wondering if it is the same thing with no sound at the target. Anyone have a camera that wants to try it.:D

RE: Broadheads noisy?? G5 Montec's
I use the stingers and do not hear any noise from them. Most broadheads have the open blades now days. Granted there are some that do not. I don't think that it would be too much to cause concern though.
