Iowa Buck

Last week while visiting my son in Iowa he took me out one evening to check out a buck that he had been watching for the last few weeks. What a pig! I am trying to tell him to let him grow one more year since I have two preference points and should draw a tag next year.:eek:

I know I'm going against the grain here, but if you have enough ground where you feel you'll have a crack at him next year, I say wait.

I know it's a summer picture but he gives me the impression of a 4 year old not a 5- 6 year old. Could you IMAGINE what he would look like next year? Just looking at the photos gets the ticker pumping a little harder.

See ya, I've gotta go shoot, gettin ready for KS. :)

oh baby i love my iowa whitetails...i once knew a 3.5 year old of that size (but he had split brow tines, grossed over 180. someone else got to him first) so yea if you think he will survive let him grow....

I would take him this year if i had the chance

RE: Iowa Buck

He looks like he might be in his prime. He might have another year of growth, but I wouldn't be so sure. Someone else might take him first.

Wow, what a stud!! That would be hard for me to pass up if he was in range.

RE: Iowa Buck

NO brainer on that one... If you wait a year he may get hit by a car or shot by another hunter.... Take him if you get the chance....

I guess I am going to go against your grain, but you must be joking! Someone has lost sight of what hunting is all about. A slight hint--it isn't exclusively about trophy hunting. Some people would never see a buck like this in a lifetime, and your saying wait!!!!---because he MIGHT not be 5 1/2 yet?!?! Unless you are hunting an enclosure,he Might become coyote feed, or die in the rut, or get hit by a car,or get poached, ,etc.!!! Wait?!?!

RE: Iowa Buck

Unless that buck was hanging with a giant non-typical that you were trying for, there is no one that would pass on a B&C buck like that.

This will be my first year deer hunting IOWA, week of November 12th, zone 5. With GOD's blessing a deer like that walks within bow range even on the first day, I will take it

Dude I'd have to shoot 17 spikes in Michigan to get that much bone.

Almost a perfect rack. He is huge in just about every aspect.

RE: Iowa Buck

If you think that he will be around next year i would wait but it would be hard to let him go if he walked by my stand.
