Tactic for deer hunters using archery

i know there have been times where you shoot your deer and watch it run away, but in the excitment don't see the specific last spot you saw the deer at...if so i suggest playing golf....i play golf and it forces you to watch the ball after hitting it all the way to exactly where it lands...it is good practice for watching things (ie hit deer, hopefully in one or two lungs) while they move until you can't see them anymore....just a thought i had while golfing this morning.....it really helps if you are a bad golfer like myself and hit them O.B therefore you really have to watch the last spot you had seen the ball in order to find it...

Right after I release my arrow , I follow thru ( watching the arrow hit the deer ) and then watch that deer run until it stops and drops or until I can't see it.
Then wait about 1/2 hour or so and pick up the blood trail.

I'm with SIDEWAYS on this one. I play golf and I lose track of my ball all the time, even when it's not in the woods. I do see your point/correlation though. Hopefully it helps others more than it has helped me. :)

At first I thought......WTF??? THEN......it hit me....

As a former PGA Professional.....I've played golf with everyone from TOUR players ......to the biggest choppers God put on earth. At some point it hit me........I'm over here where elephants go to die.......where bigfoot won't dare to wander........looking for a ball......that this dumbaXX didn't watch off the tee. I remember the day I stopped looking......in those circumstances.

I'd hate to think it.....but I KNOW it happens with some of you guys while deer hunting. I've had it happen NUMEROUS times duck hunting (Thanks Ashley - my Lab). She's made up for a LOT of dumbaxx friends lack of respect for their quarry (by marking the fall FOR them).

This is a good post. I have no experience with people not following their deer until they can't see it anymore........but I suppose it happens. I'll have a talk with Junior.....just about this.

Thanks

jeff

For me, it is very difficult to mark a spot from the stand and find it quickly once I climb down because the perspective is so different. Now, on our farms is one thing because I know them so well I can pretty much tell where they are going, but on public land or somewhere I don't know so well I mark the spot I hit them. I am colorblind and can't follow a blood trail so I either go get my dog or whomever I am hunting with to help me from there. I do watch them as long as I can though because if I can see them go down then all of the above is a moot point.
