How long are your arrows? If I remember, your thread yesterday stated you had a 23 1/2" draw, correct? If so, your arrows are probably in the 22 1/2" range, yes? If so, a 500 would do fine, but nothing wrong w/ your 400's either.

yes i do have a 23 1/2 inch draw but my arrows are 29 1/2 in. including the nock

so what would be better a 500 or 400 i didnt even kno you can cut your arrows untill yesterday i saw the machine at the bowshop but will it affect my flight any? it will probably make my fps way faster too rite

RE: easton shaft selector

Why are they so long? That's 6" longer than your DL......They could be much, much shorter. Given that, you are borderline 500 and 400. Best to be overspined than under, stick w/ the 400's, or cut them down and use 500. You aren't hurting anything w/ them that long, just not necessary.

Yes, by cutting your arrows down by 5 or 6 inches, you'll lose about 40 grains of arrow weight and increase your speed by...oh......6 or 7 fps. They just don't need to be that long. Unless you plan on growing really fast and increasing your DL....

RE: easton shaft selector

so what do u suggest that i do buy 500 and cut them down by 5 in

thanks for all your help

also will that increase my grouping at longer distances?

mobow 08-08-2006 07:36 PM

RE: easton shaft selector

Yes, I would. But if you don't want to buy new arrows, cut the ones down you have now.

RE: easton shaft selector

WILL IT CHANGE THE PERFORMENCE AT ALL OF THE SIZE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN 500 AND 400? BECAUSE I AM PLANNING TO CUT THEM AT 24 INCHES DO U THINK THAT WILL BE GOOD?

mobow 08-08-2006 07:40 PM

RE: easton shaft selector

Sorry, I take for granted folks know what that is. It stands for Draw Length.......DL....

Yes, changing could indeed enhance your performance. An arrow that is severely overspined will just not fly very good. It's a delicate balancing act, but honestly, in your case, it probably won't make such a difference you'll notice. Just cut down the ones you have.

YEA I NOW MY BAD I DIDNT THINK HARD ENOUGH RITE AFTER I WROTE IT I REMEMBERED WHAT IT WAS.WILL IT MAKE MY GROUPING BETTER?AND WHY DO U SAY I WOULDNT HURT A THING WITH THAT?

RE: easton shaft selector

It may POSSIBLY make your gouping better, but the biggest impact on that is you, the shooter. Proper and consistent form are the recipe for good groups, but proper equipment plays into that as well.

What I mean is, if you cut your current arrows down, you won't be so overspined that it will work against you. An arrow that is too stiff is just as bad as an arrow that is too weak. There's a happy medium there, you gotta be in the right place. With your set up, you SHOULD be shooting 500's, ROUGHLY 22 1/2" long. I can't be sure of the length, it depends on several things that can't be determined here. By cutting your 400's down, you will stiffen them up, but they won't be too stiff. They should work fine.

OK MOBOWHUNTER I WANNA THANK YOU FOR ALL YOUR HELP

I THINK IM GONNA WIND UP BUYING SOME 500'S AND LIKE YOU SAID CUT THEM ABOUT 5 INCHES SHORTER BUT I WAS WONDERING ON EASTONS TUNE UP GUIDE IT SAYS TO CUT THE ARROW ABOUT 1 TO 2 INCHES AWAY FROM THE FRONT OF THE SHELF?SHOULD I CUT IT AT THAT LENGTH OR CUT IT AT THE LENGTH THAT U R TELLING ME

mobow 08-08-2006 08:12 PM

RE: easton shaft selector

I can't answer that w/out standing next to you looking at your set up. It depends on several things. Ask the guy at the shop to cut them at the proper length. Any shop worth their salt will do just that.

Oh, and you are most welcome. You guys are what this all about!! ;)

RE: easton shaft selector

Why not just order them at the shop? They'll be cheaper in the long run, once you figure in shipping, and you'll be building a relationship w/ that shop. A good relationship w/ a good pro shop is an INVALUABLE tool to have at your disposal. If I were him, I would think "Hey, this guy wants me to do the work, but spend his money somewhere else!"

Understand? Get them where you want, but I HIGHLY suggest pro shop.
