Just Chrono'd my XT
Does this seem reasonable? Here are my #'s
[ul][*]Switchback XT @ 30" drawlength[*]60 #[*]I am shooting a peep sight with a tube[*]I have string leeches installed[*]Maxima 350's @ 29 5/8" long (not counting field point)[*]100 grain field points[*]with this setup I got 251 fps max[*]I maxed it out at 72 # and got 271 fps[*]I shot one of my super carbon 55/70's and it added 8fps[/ul] I can shoot the added draw weight but I am more comfortable and more accurate at the lower draw weight. I really wanted to use the maximas but they seem heavy. Maybe I should have got the 250 Maximas?? Should I be happy with the 251 ? It is super quiet and accurate out to 40 yds. |
RE: Just Chrono'd my XT
Nevermind. Thought I just heard Greg walk in........:D

RE: Just Chrono'd my XT
if you have a accurate scale to measure your arrow weight, if not get the GPI of your arrows and that will give you a good estimate, then calculate your KE online, goldtip's website has a calculator that shows your KE in a chart w/ the recomended amounts for game type. Im sure 250 is plenty... if you feel like turning it up more maybe add just a few pounds every couple weeks and you wont notice the change all that much.

RE: Just Chrono'd my XT
I shoot 250's out of my AR31 at 286fps!

RE: Just Chrono'd my XT
Yup, that's about right....I found the XT slower than the regular Switchback.
The Switchback is a great bow, quiet, smooth but the smoothness makes for a slower bow than many others. It's the aggressive cams of the other bows which makes them faster but perhaps not quite as smooth to draw....Of the 4 bows I shot researching my newest purchase the Switchback was the slowest of the 4 which also included the Allegiance, Tribute and Trykon. |
RE: Just Chrono'd my XT
Me too. After a trip to the pro shop to have it retuned because of the string stretching. I am getting 256.
My stats: [ul][*]draw 28"[*]tube on peep[*]Easton axis 400 arrows at 27"[*]100 grain tips[*]65#[*]blazer vanes (2")[*]Trophy Taker Shakey Hunter drop away rest[*]Switchback XT[/ul] |
RE: Just Chrono'd my XT
i took my tribute to lady that want sell anything but mathews and she said this bow has a smooth draw cycle. 61lb and 28 inch draw to get 299-300fps is pretty impressing. shoot my buddies xt smoothes thing i ever draw and let it go and i could tell the difference in the bowtech binary technology i could feel that one cam on the xt doing all the work, that's the only reason i didn't buy xt just tried of one cam been shooting them since my 1998 pearson spoiler.

RE: Just Chrono'd my XT
id be highly disappointed with that speed. where did all you money go into that purchase...the quiteness??? i believe that there needs to be a full cycle, a nice balance...speed, quite, accurate and smooth. I don't want any of that messing.

RE: Just Chrono'd my XT
taking that tube peep off will probably add 3-5 fps if im not mistaken seems kinda weird with a bow that good why yall would want a huge rubber band aimed straight at your eye when you could use a peep without it.
|
RE: Just Chrono'd my XT
I agree dump the tubeget a different style peep like the G5 Meta peep, you also might be able to take off the leeches and still have aquiet bow(that tubing isloud). Any way the Switchback that I shot was super quiet with nothing on the string but a loop and a peep. Youhave a possibility of picking up over 10fps if you do this.
Your XT may not be the fastest bow in the stablebut it is still a great piece of equipment. |
RE: Just Chrono'd my XT
krabbie, I agree with my counterparts here... a Fletcher Tru-Peep or something similar would probably be a much better choice... Though you should probably get a better string if you decide to do that, to cut down on peep rotation.
As Antler Eater said though, nice bow. Shoot something big with it this fall! :D |
RE: Just Chrono'd my XT
Bowtech Tribute, 74 lbs, Gold tip 5575, 100 grain fieldtips, Quickspins, 28" draw--305 fps!:D

RE: Just Chrono'd my XT
Don't be that upset about it. I shoot an Outback set at 64 pounds with 28in arrows that are about 425 grains with the tips. Of course I have a loop, g5 peep, kisser and a WB.. I shot it through the radar today and I'm right at 244 fps..
Not the fastest but easy to draw, quiet, somewhat heavy game arrow, and easy to control for good accuracy. More than enough KE to kill whitetail. Probably enough for Elk, although if I did go Elk with it I'd probably crank er up to 70lbs.. Your good to hunt so have fun and good luck... |
RE: Just Chrono'd my XT
You may want to take offthe peep tube. You shouldn't get any peep rotation if you take it off. Also, you may want to check the cam timing on your XT. Go to the Mathews forum andfind out what speeds other XT owner's are getting with similar setups.

RE: Just Chrono'd my XT
If it was me I would be disappointed. I was shooting a Browning Tornado last fall with 27.5" Carbon Express arrows, 100gr tips, at 28" draw length and 65lbs and making 256fps thur the chrony.
Once I chrony my Hoyt Trykon with my new Axis arrows I will post it up. |
RE: Just Chrono'd my XT
Does this sound good?
PSE NOVA S4 65# 30 Inch Draw 29 inch Easton XX75 2314 4 inch feathers 100grain tips/broadheads Kisser, Peep, and leaches WB Chronoed at 276.2fps |
RE: Just Chrono'd my XT
You are shooting a heavy arrow at 60lbs - thats why its not shooting fast.
But it is shooting what it should be shooting You want faster - up the poundage or go to lighter arrows |
RE: Just Chrono'd my XT
thanks for the advice everyone. I knew the 350 Maximas were a little heavy but according to the chart I needed 350's if I ever went up to 65# so that is why I went with them. I may try that G5 peep also. I left it cranked up to 72# with a 271 fps speed but I am not that accurate at that weight so I will probably go back down and just get a lighter arrow.

RE: Just Chrono'd my XT
If you do a search on FPS on here you'll have enough BS to read through by the time your done bow season will be over, it's been said before and I'll say it agian, if your super accurate with 60lbs leave it alone,,,,10 fps or even 20 fps isn't going to mean squate if you miss what your aiming for, I still get a kick out of people who get so caught up in FPS,,,,,you can kill a deer with a clean shot with a bow that shoot's 170 FPS. In closing I'll just say I'd rather be accurate than fast any day.

RE: Just Chrono'd my XT
A few pounds on the draw weight makes very little difference on the output velocity so shoot what is comfortable. On my Mathews Ultra II one pound makes 1 fps difference. At least from 60-65 pounds. I also use a peep and tube for the reliability and never having to check my peep before drawing. Not a big difference for deer from a stand, but huge when spot and stalking IMO. I lost no velocity with the new tube peep, but I did also go to a upgraded string, so maybe they cancelled each other out.

RE: Just Chrono'd my XT
My stats:
[ul][*]draw 27"[*]G5 peep (5 grains)[*]D-loop[*]GoldTip 7595 Pro Hunters @ 26.5[*]125 Gr Tips[*]66#[*]blazer vanes (2")[*]Vapor Trail Sting & Cable[*]Vapor Trail Limb Driver rest[*]STS[*]Switchback XT[/ul] The total arrow finished arrow weight is 413 gr and it shoots @ 259 through my chrono. I've toyed with GT55/75's with a 100gr tip which came in at 271 with an arrow weight of 363 and CX300's with a 100 gr tip @ 266 with an arrow weight of 386. I went for the heavier shaft which shoots great and is extremely quiet. I use the bow strictly for hunting and I want one that's quiet as a church mouse. With the heavier shaft, it's very very quiet. I plan on using this setup for deer, bear and hogs. |
