2nd Rut??
I know the rut here in Canada has just kicked in, but can anyone tell me if there is a 2nd rut in December. Is it natures way of making sure that if there were Does that were not impregnated the first time around, then they would have a second chance a month later? Here in southern Ontario, Canada, the Buck/Doe ratio is probably 1:8 so I can't imagine those Bucks being able to "Get around" that much.Any thoughts? Thanx, Steve.

RE: 2nd Rut??
Yep, a second rut for any unbred does about 28 days after the 1st one, that is if you don't count those does that were bred in October (there's always a few).

RE: 2nd Rut??
In Minnesota 6 month old fawns breed in December. That's the case in most northern areas, especially if the buck:doe ratio is way out of wack. Take a look at the MN Conception Dates Graph on my website, it should help explain breeding during the rut.
During Dr. Marchinton's study they found that does recycled from 21-30 days, with an average of 26 days. One doe came into esturs 7 times, the last time would have been in April. [email protected] www.thehunterseye.com/trmichels T.R. Michels Edited by - trmichels on 11/07/2002 05:43:10 |
RE: 2nd Rut??
It isn't exactly a "2nd rut". The bucks are in rut depending where you are , from mid to late October thru January. Their in rut the whole time , it's like TR said , their after the late breeders.
