Switching from right to left hand??
Has anyone switched shooting hands on a bow?? I am left eye dominant and shoot a gun left handed. 12 years ago when i started shooting a bow I decided to go right handed out of convenience. Now i am thinking about switching because of accuracy problems. I have always been a decent shot but my friends are ALWAYS a bit better. Plus theres the one time I got buck fever on a monster 10 pointer and forgot to close my left eye and totally screwed up the opportunity of a lifetime.
Going to the bow shop to try a lefty today. I have never shot one. |
RE: Switching from right to left hand??
My dad had a cornia transplant several years ago and had to switch to a left handed bow. It was tough for the first few years, but he was back to normal form after about two years. Practice...........a lot!
Good luck with the switch |
RE: Switching from right to left hand??
well when i was little i went from right to left, its going to be harder than what you think, i cant pull my bow back with my right and im right handed. Its going to be tough and i wouldnt have done it this close to hunting season but you can do anything you put your mind to

RE: Switching from right to left hand??
This has actually crossed my mind as well... Only because I would like to be able to shoot with Both eyes open... And I am "Wrong Eye" dominat for that shooting right handed... The more I shoot the more I would like to switch so I could become a better archer... But I'm not sure that would work out or not... Might just stick one eye closed...lol

RE: Switching from right to left hand??
I just got back from the bow shop. I was able to pull the 70lbs, same as right hand, with both the tykon and the tribute. I shot them withouts sights and it felt okay but i am still leery about 1)switching right before season and 2) spending $700-$800 on a lefty bow and equipment and not being completely happy. \Tough decision for me. I am going to another bow shop tonight to decide.

RE: Switching from right to left hand??
I'm in the same boat and I just ordered a left-handed Bowtech TomKat. However, I'm not planning on getting into shape with it in time to hunt with it this year. I'll split my practice time between my current righty and my new lefty. If I end up feeling confident enough to hunt with it this year - great! If not, I'll be all set by next year.

RE: Switching from right to left hand??
I made the right to left switch this spring. I missed a great buck opening day last season because I couldn't see my pin thrumy peep sightwith one eye closed but when I opened both eyes I could see it but couldn't get it aligned. What I did was keep my right handed Mathews Q2 until I was comfortable shooting left handed. After countless hours and many, many shots, I now shoot my BowTech Tribute better left handed than I shot my Q2 right handed. I can group 3 arrows in a 6 inch circle at 60 yards pretty consistently.I sold my Q2 to my best friend. Good luck!

There is a thread on this subject on the Technical Forum with a lot of information. |
