New to board & need answers

I've been hunting for a while but have never really used many scents
so the following may be a dumb question(s). When and how do hunters use the following scents?

doe estrus?
buck urine?
tarsel gland?

Like I said I've hunted for a while, but I'm just trying to increase my chances. That's what us hunters are supposed to do isn't it? Thanks in advance for your help and good hunting.

I personnally like to use Buck type lures during the pre-rut time in my hunting areas. When I start seeing scrapes I like to use a tarsal gland lure in my mock scrapes or doctor up real scrapes to setup on. I've had luck with deer revisiting them, and had a 4pt come into one my scrapes, checking it out, stood right in it, smelled the scrape. As far as estrous I personnally start using that about this time of year in my area. The actual breeding rut is just around the corner, and the bucks are roaming in my area searching for a hot doe. Especially the larger bucks. I started using it this past wknd. Use of scents is almost like a science in itself. You need to know your area well, when deer go through the stages, and use the proper human scent precautions for them to work properly. Good Luck in your adventures!

If you wanted to...you could spend a life savings on "stuff" for bowhunting. Read the posts and use the search, you will find that the people in this forum are very helpful.

I use the buck urine in fresh scrapes I see that I want the buck to return to. The tarsel gland scent is what i put on the licking branch above the scrape. And as far as the doe urine, I put that on my boots after I have sprayed them with a cover scent and that way the bucks won't smell my trail. Also if I am hunting a trail that I want a buck to follow, I will dip a scent sponge into the doe urine and tie a string on it. Then drag it down the trail I want him to follow right before getting in my stand. The problem with this is you have to be scent free yourself before attempting this. If that buck smells you, all the scent in the world isn't going to help you. good luck
