How many have a back up bow?
How many of you guys have a back up bow ready to go if your primary bow fails for some reason?
I never have, but am thinking of changing that now that I had a limb crack on me the other day. Now I am sidelined until it gets back from the manufacturer. Hopefully it won't take too long. It is killing me knowing I don't have my bow. |
RE: How many have a back up bow?
i dont have a back up bow, but i have wondered what i need to do if i do crack a limb..... just send it back to the manufactuer?
thanks, tony |
RE: How many have a back up bow?
I have 2 backups actually. My Switchback is my primary backup and then if that fails I'd grab my old school PSE Fire-Flite.
|
RE: How many have a back up bow?
Yes, I have my old Mountaineer bow ready. I replaced this bow with a new one last year.
Even before that though I have always had a back up bow sighted in and ready just in case. |
RE: How many have a back up bow?
Yep I got a backup. I don't get rid of old bows so there starting to stack up a bit.
|
RE: How many have a back up bow?
Yep, travelling out of state and to other countries it is a must IMO.

RE: How many have a back up bow?
the only reason i have 2 back up bows is because nobody has bought them yet
|
RE: How many have a back up bow?
I have my old Extreme Solo and my Original Jennings Buckmaster ready to go if needed.
|
RE: How many have a back up bow?
My new BowTech Old Glory just retired my Hoyt UltraTec to spare status.
|
RE: How many have a back up bow?
I have a few Brownings to chose from ready to go at any time.
|
RE: How many have a back up bow?
Kept a Z-Max that I had (sentimental reasons) but never really kept it ready to go. I have an Elk hunt planned for September and just got done "updating" it with some new items. It is amazing to me how much better thesebows get in just a few years (now shooting a Tribute). Still shoots good but not near as smooth, quiet or shock free as the Tribute.

RE: How many have a back up bow?
Me without a back up - totally out of the question - Mathews outback handles my backup nicely.
|
RE: How many have a back up bow?
I bought a second bow this year and was glad I did. I have a Trykon that I had rest problems with and it took 3 weeks to get a new rest so I had the Tribute as a backup. Now I don't know which is my favorite.
|
RE: How many have a back up bow?
Nope, not me, I'm afraid I would just have to run out and buy me a new one ifsomething happened to the one I have now.:Dhhhmmmmm.. But then I would be down for a while until I had the new one tuned in just right.

RE: How many have a back up bow?
This is a really pertinent question for me right now! I shoot a 2002 Hoyt Ultratec, like most of you guys between the bow,the sight, the rest, the winners choice strings and cables there is about $1000 bucks in this bow.I had had a year 2000 Ultratec as a backup,I hadn't shot that bow in 5 years,I had all I could do to get $175 for the bow when I sold it.I purchased a 2005 protec, had about the same amount of money in that bow,but I didn't like it's draw cycle,(specifically the way the cams rolled over)I sold it just this week and took a beating on it $425.So I am on the fence the thought of not having a back up bow scares the heck out of me!I know on my Ultratec that the limbs are warranteed for life,I just don't want to be out of commission during the season.Fortunately I have done enough business with my archery shop that I know he could get me set up in a pinch. My inclination is to have a set of string and cables ready if need be and look for a deal on a two to three year old bow, that I know that I am satisfied with and have shot before I purchase it.I also have two friends that buy two to three bows a year and we have similar draw lengths I am not looking to be a mooch but they are good friends and I would do the same for them.
I have to say that I am totally disgusted with the depreciation in value of bows.I like new and shiny as much as anyone I just hate getting beat on the sale of expensive extremely well maintained equipment. |
RE: How many have a back up bow?
Hoyt Trykon and Hoyt Viper Tec..........shoot both of them all the time. Hunted with the Viper Tec last fall and will probably hunt with the Trykon this fall. I know the Viper Tec is a killer.

RE: How many have a back up bow?
No back up for me. I don't have the money right now:( Maybe when I get older and can afford it....but right now, any money from an old bow is put toward the new one.
|
RE: How many have a back up bow?
Yes. I have the 06' switchback XT as my primary hunting bow this year and the Liberty 1 for closer quarters or ground blind hunting. I will also have my Apex 7 set up as backup if need be. I do all of my hunting 1.5-4 hours from my house so equipment failure isn't an option.
|
RE: How many have a back up bow?
Yep. I have my old Jennings Rackmaster rigged out and ready in a moments notice.
It will still put some meat on the ground.:D |
RE: How many have a back up bow?
That question played on my mind quite a bit the last couple of months so i traded for a leftover from last year 2005 Bowtech defender, I really like it and I have the old 05 Viper Tech with some brand spanking new gibblets on it, It served me well last year, although I dont know which one will be backup and which one will be primary this year.

RE: How many have a back up bow?
Yes I have 2 back up bows. A Browning and a self bow. I really wouldnt want to use my self bow but would if I had no other option.
|
RE: How many have a back up bow?
Not only a back up bow but back up strings and cables just in case....it's always a good idea especially a invested trip.
|
RE: How many have a back up bow?
I don't this year but will have one next year. Not sure what but we'll see what comes out in 07.
|
RE: How many have a back up bow?
I will use my wife's bow for backup in a pinch. it used to be mine. It is an Alpine Impact X-treme. It now has 40-50# limbs so it will produce enough KE to make a clean kill. It is also very DL adjustable so I could get it tuned for me in a hurry if I had to. I had 60=70# limbs on it and I made my first bow kill with it. A 125# hog.

|
RE: How many have a back up bow?

|
RE: How many have a back up bow?
not me yet!
|
RE: How many have a back up bow?
I might have a couple sitting around that I could use.......;):D
I don't consider them back-ups though, I call them "Game Time Decisions" as they will all see some action most likely. |
RE: How many have a back up bow?
I got one hanging up in the basement ready to rock if need be:D
|
RE: How many have a back up bow?
I call them two 'active' bows. I practice with both at the same time so that my confidence is good with both. I'm not sure which one I'll hunt with first, but if an issue occurs with one, the other is right there for use. They both shoot the same arrows and almost the same accessories so that adds to the consistency.
If two break in the field at the same time, I'll just go home as it was not meant to be!!! |
RE: How many have a back up bow?
I have one but now it has turned into the full time bow-fishing bow.
|
RE: How many have a back up bow?
I have a trusted PSE Nova, which I used for many years, and killed deer with it every year. If my Mathews Switchback failed, then I would use the PSE without hesitation.
|
RE: How many have a back up bow?
I will more than likely be selling my Parker Hunter Mag Single Cam. Here's the Specs:
26" Draw @ 70# 26.25" CE 4560/6075 arrows QS delux WB Comfort Grip Trophy Ridge Vertical Matrix 5pin Case included Not to sure when I will sell this bow.Slightly out of tune but this bow is very quiet. Tunning is probably OPERATOR FORM ERROR but hits where I aim it every time. I'm not out to rip anyone off. Please allow me to have this bow properly inspected and will post sale info when ready. This is just letting everyone know. Thanks for your time. |
RE: How many have a back up bow?
Well, I've never had the "means" to have a backup bow. But now that I'm out of college with a real job, I have that opportunity. Strangely enough though, my hunting bow will be my '03 Razortec and my backup bow is my Trykon.

RE: How many have a back up bow?
My first bow a bear polar LTD whoooo a great bow lol
|
RE: How many have a back up bow?
I might have a couple sitting around that I could use.......;):D I don't consider them back-ups though, I call them "Game Time Decisions" as they will all see some action most likely. I'll be starting off the year with my Allegiance with speed mods, but as it becomes colder (say mid- to late-November), I'll be switching to the Tribute with the smooth mods. Colder temps means bulkier clothing and tighter muscles, so I'll be enjoying that buttery, silky smooth draw of the Trib as the temps drop. |
RE: How many have a back up bow?
Yes I do. you bet. PSE Pulsar. I have two of alot of things when it comes to bowhunting!!!
