Hand Shock (Elbow Pain)
 

Am I just shooting too much or will hand shock cause joint pain in the elbow? I've noticed a little shock from my bow but I am not familiar with what it's really all about. I'm assuming on the release that if you get a shock(not vibration), that is what hand shock is. Can someone enlighten me on what it is and how to get rid of it?

In your draw arm or bow arm? Hand shock is vibration and recoil. You've heard, For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction? Well, as the string goes forward with extreme force, the bow actually recoils back, into your hand, slightly.

You may be developing tendonitis in that elbow. Take it easy a day or two, if you can. ;)

Yeah Mobow it's in the bow arm. It doesn't stay there but just a little while during or after shooting. Good as new the after an hour or so. Is there anything to help tame the shock. I've got the Bowtech factory kit on the bow, but I installed the Simms S-coil stabilizer afterwards and I wonder if a better stabilizer would help? I really don't put a whole lot of faith in the S-coil. Any help would be appreciated.

The S coil is a very good stabilizer. You are going to have that reaction whatever you put on....just laws of physics. Try locking your bow shoulder down so you are holding more bone on bone and not w/ muscle. Just sounds like tired muscles to me.

Buy a Switchback and forget about it. No hand shock at all. No disrespect intended.

I was going to say "Take two aspirin and start shooting a BowTech." but I see you're already doing part of it at least. The TomKat has very little hand shock when compared to most bows on the market. I started getting similar pains a couple years ago (at 37). I took some time off shooting and used ibuprofen to keep the swelling down. It's probably just a sign of getting older but you may want to ask a doctor about it, it could be tendonitis or arthritis. An elastic elbow brace may help also. (I have to wear one on my knee for goat hunting now, along with better living through drugs...)

I put a new stabilizer on my bow and it eliminated the hand shock. I second the "get a switchback", that bow is the smoothest bow I've ever shot.
