Practice with a recurve or compound?
This is my second post here, Im a new hunter (or hunter wannabe), so far I've just been practicing on targets and 3D. I've got a compound Im planning on using for hunting this fall, but I've been practicing with a recurve, because I've been told its best to learn how to shoot with only the basics first. Is this true?
also is hunting with a recurve much harder than using a compound? Many thanks -Dave |
RE: Practice with a recurve or compound?
I think you should practice with what you're going to hunt with. You should be very familiar & comfortable shooting your bow, especially when you're you're about to put an arrow on an animal--whether it's a recurve or compound.

RE: Practice with a recurve or compound?
I agree with JimP. At this point you should become intimately familiar with the bow you intend to use. Shooting a compound is a different process than shooting a recurve. You need to commit to one. As a recurve shooter I can say that there is no difference in the difficulty of hunting with a compound vs. a recurve. However, I've got to generally let them get closer in order to be confident in a good hit with a recurve. And shooting any bow well is all about confidence.
