Pros and Cons of 4 blade vs 3 blade?
Ok I know a lot of you guys like to tinker around with all your equipment. (I mean bows and stuff... geez :))
I guess for me I like to have solid stuff that doesn't require me to always be tuning and adjusting. So in my pursuit to find a broadhead that flies great out of my set-up, I've tried alot of them. Always comingback to mechanicals fro accuracy. So as I said I don't like leaving things to chance (will it open etc..) Anyway to get to the point I picked up a pack of Muzzy Mx-4's ..these friggin things may fly better than my fieldpoints! I never considered a 4 blade broad head. Why does it seem so many avoid them?? What am I missing? What's 5-shots link I want to seee if he's tested these?? |
RE: Pros and Cons of 4 blade vs 3 blade?
I don't think it's that they are "avoided", BUT instead, since 3 blades kill critters dead, I guess it begs to ask, how dead is dead enough!!
All things being equal, the 4 blade will have about 25% more cut. In other words, compare a 3 blade 1" broadhead to the 4 blade 1", and you get about 25% more cutting surfice. BUT again, how dead is dead enough. 3 blades do pretty darn good and getting the job done! If the 4 blade flys better in your set-up, that would be a plus for you to use it over the 3! |

http://www.broadheadtests.com/FEATURES.html That's 5's website.
4 Blades are not an issue unless you live by the rule of thumb that 2 blades penetrate better than 3, then 4 etc....with good KE you won't have any problem with penetration. If you found a great quality head like Muzzy and have them nailing takes, stick with them. The only issue I have with one of your statements is.... Always comingback to mechanicals fro accuracy. Not all mind you, many shoot them out of a perfectly matched tuned set for cutting diameter or other reasons. Thank you for letting me blabber. |
RE: Pros and Cons of 4 blade vs 3 blade?
Several years ago it used to be generally accepted that a 3 blade head would be easier to tune for accuracy than a 4 blade head, at least I found that to be somewhat true many years ago. So I have lived by the 3 blade with good success and confidence. But with the advent of the new smaller heads they will fly inheritantly the same. Here is what I like with the new smaller fixed blade heads.........you can have the same or very slightly cutting diameter with them as with a larger head, but with less resistance because its shorter.
Glad you like the new MX-4's, am thinking of giving them a try as well as Slicktricks, to go along with my regualar Muzzy 3 blades and the Rocky Mtn. Turbos I used last season. |

So you like the new Muzzys?? Did you shoot the Muzzy 4 blade before? How do they compare?
