RE: Do you remember your first bow?
Yup, I remember mine.....I'm still shooting it....7 years later. I'll give it another 2-3 years before an upgrade.

RE: Do you remember your first bow?
Jennings Forked Lightning. I shot the hell outta that bow, and even killed a few deer with it. I graduated to an XI Legend Magnum from there. At the time, Myles Keller was my hero, that was who he was endorsing at the time.

RE: Do you remember your first bow?
my first bow is a PSE silverhawk, that my dad bought at wally world, 3 years ago, i started using it, 2 season ago and killed my first deer with it that year. This will be the third season that i will use the bow if i dont get enough money to buy i new bow, which i would like to do, but if not i am good to go. it is a nice bow, little loud, even with silincers on it but it does get the job done. i have the bow maxed out now at 30"DL and a little of 60# of draw wieght, shooting easton maxum quattro's 340 alum. 2413 i think is what they are

RE: Do you remember your first bow?
Bear compund bow, 60# ... sold it for more than I bought it for! Now that's getting your moneys worth!

RE: Do you remember your first bow?
Mine was one of those "toy" bows... you know, the red fiberglass bow with wheels.... I think I was about 5
When I was about 7I got a Pearson with a 35# max peak weight... That's about when my dad and I would take turns trying to bust each others knocks.. hehe... By the time I was 9 I showed my dad that I could pull back my mom's which was at 50#.... I remember sneaking downstairs and trying it everyday for weeks before I finally could.... When I was 10 I started hunting with it. Before I could legally sit in a stand by myself. My mom would sit in a box blind a 100 or so yds away while I sat in a stand.... Only thing I ever killed was a squirrel(literally nailed to a tree).... but man was I COOL!!! :)I got to bowhunt like my dad!!! |
RE: Do you remember your first bow?
Mine was a Browning something or another. Round wheel compound at 60# draw. I put an overdraw on it and my Easton 2117's were screaming at 214fps. I sold it to buy the Browning Mirage when it first came out. That had two radical cams and I couldn't shoot it worth a damn! I wished I hadn't sold the first one for years.

RE: Do you remember your first bow?
You know.....when I first started to reply to this......I thought I was gonna get laughed at. I "started" to put down that my first bow was the one I'm shooting, now ....my '05 switchback.
When I started thinking......I opened up a lot of old memories. My first bow came when I was just a REALLY little kid. My dad used to cut my brother's and my har with electric clippers when we were young. I remember the day he took me to the barber shop for the first time (If any of you are Andy Griffith fans....it was the barber shop right beside the "Snappy Lunch" they mention on the show. I grew up in Andy's home town......and MUCH of the show is depicted from 'our' hometown). Well.....the bribe was.....after the haircut....we could go and get a toy from the Rose's department store (across the street)....and then eat lunch (which ended up being at Snappy Lunch). At Rose's....dad bought me a "li'l Beaver' (yeah....I was a Red Ryder fan) toy bow and arrows. I thought nothing could be finer. When I look back on that, now......and think how far I've come (financially......though anywhere at that time would have been UP).....I can't imagine anything other than my wife and son making me ANY happier than I was at that moment. Life is funny....and simple, sometimes.....ain't it???? Anyways......I remember also being a few years older.....and buying some real arrows from the store (cheap). I remember getting a piece of nylon rope......notching a green....just-so-perfect tree limb.....and making my own bows. It was amazing how good the arrows flew with the homemade bow. I also remember getting an old recurve at a yard sale for practically nothing.......and shooting it off-and-on for a few years. Nothing ever serious, though. It wasn't until my son (14yrs) got an old Jennings from a neighbor.....last year.....that the archery bug bit me, again. At the time (and up until this very moment) I thought THAT was the beginning of me and archery. I wanted a bow, too. I thought it was something we could do, together. I bought the Switchback.....and I've been balls-to-the-wall, every since. I hate to go onand on.....but this topic has opened up some oldmemory albums.I can thank dad for buying me that old toy bow.....35 years ago.....but he left us in 2001. If your dadgot you into bows and bowhunting......tell him "thanks"..... I don't recall who opened this thread....but I apologize for the long-winded answer......and hope I didn't threadjack. Jeff |
RE: Do you remember your first bow?
I remember my first bow like it was yesturday.
I was hunting in the Berkshiers in Ma. and a friend of mine just bought a new fangled thing with 8 wheels and called it a compound bow. Fred Bear came up with the idia and of course I watched all the American Sportsman series with Curt Goudy and Fred was on there quite a bit Archery hunting. Any way he let me shoot it and it was really neat you could come to full draw and 50% of the weight let go. I had to have one so I went to the local gun shop (back then there wern't any archery shops around here) and bought a Fred Bear Whitetail. I hunted hard with that bow for our 3 week season every year for 6 years and never took a deer with it. here wern't many deer around here back then. But it got me hooked and here almopst 40 years latter I am still a bow hunting adict. |
RE: Do you remember your first bow?
