I've been reading and enjoying all the posts here and finally have one of my own. I've been hunting at least once or twice a week since our Oct 15th opener here in MA and it's been very slow. I finally scored last Friday with a 7 point buck that was chasing a doe. My partner and I set-up on both sides of a field with him closer to some thickets and me in a wooded funnel between two fields. We were in our stands about half hour before light and I could hear sticks being broken over in the thick stuff every now and then and was expecting something to come from that direction but nothing showed. I stood in my stand at about 8:15am to stretch and I watched a doe run across the field and stop at the far end to my left looking behind her. Not 30 seconds later I saw the sun reflecting off of antlers and see the buck slowly making his way down the field edge at which point the doe bounded into the woods at the field edge. He got to the far end and must have caught wind of the scent wick I had out and made a hard left into the woods where he stopped and tore up a small tree and made a scrape about 30 yards in front of me. He followed into the woods and was making his way to my left. I drew when he got to about 25 yards and mouth bleated to stop him. Placed the pin and released and heard a loud clank. He jumped completely around and bounded 10 yards closer to where he was now at 10 yards looking for what made the noise. I slowly took another arrow from my quiver knocked it and waited for him to calm down. After about 2-3 minutes he had his nose to the ground at which point I drew and he took a couple steps closer and stopped broadside for a 10 yard shot. I placed the pin and released and heard that distinctive thwack. He spun and ran for the field as I watched him go down not 50 yards into the field. Got down and checked for my first arrow and found that it had hit a small brier vine in my shooting lane and had bounced off the stone wall making the loud clank. My partner told me the buck was chasing the doe around in the ticket in front of him from before daylight and they just never showed until she down the field. He dressed out at 150lbs.
