My pro-shop's 3D course usually has one or two real close shots to practice on, os I think I am somewhat prepared for it, although I would be nervous take that shot, especially if was straight down. Tough one to practice for though that's for sure.

What Ropedawg said.

LOL at Phall:D, just because you can hit em with the stream don't mean you can skewer em with a BH.

RE: Has this ever happened before...not prepared?

I went to a 3D shoot with a five yard shot at a carp about ten feet down a slope. My buddy says "Looks like a 40 yard shot to me." I thought he was joking and then he hit the 11 ring pinwheeled and said he used his 40 yrd pin. He told me I better do the same thing or I'll be digging my arrow out of the dirt right under him. So I placed my 40 yarder on the 11 and sure enough...bullseye. Who would have thought that that was a 40 yard shot?

Confused the heck out of me when my buddy tried to explain it to me on the range. It took some convincing on his part for me to put my 40 yard pin on a five yard target.

I put my 40 yard pin on a target 5 yards out and ten feet down, and I hit the 11 ring. My 20 yard pin was well over the target's back. Don't ask me to explain how it works or why, I just know that I walked away with an 11 on that target. Would I try it in a tree stand with a monster rack right below me? No, I would wait for a broadside shot to present itself before I would shoot nearly straight down on any deer.

Climb a tree, stand on your garage or on a elevated platform and try it, you may be surprised at your results.

The arrow dosnt have enough time to rise so your 40 yard pin typically being the closes pin to your arrow is the one you should use. If you use your 10 yard pin look where your arrow is pointing... right below your target at 5 yards.

If I have a deer 5 yards from my tree it's getting smoked. I know where to hold on that shot.....

I'm interested in hearing a LOT of people respond to this. I'm intrigued.

I try to practice at all distances. Short and longer........ that way feel better taking a close shot! [8D]

try a 1 yd shot - you've got to use your 70 yard pin.
