decisions decisions
I just started bowhunting 2 yrs ago. I really have been putting my time in and working my butt off. Ive pretty much given up fishing and have put all my free time into bowhunting.
I found a piece of property that is amazingly low on hunting pressure. Ive scouted it out and found some nice sheds, none were fresh though. I recently put my cam in there and had a bunch of 1.5 yr olds on it last week. This past week I found this guy. I dont know what I would do if I saw him. I have shot 3 deer a doe and 2 1.5 yr olds. I think if I let him walk this year e has a high chance of living through the season. But then again Im new and need the experience. I am torn on this. I figure hes a 2.5 yr old? 110- 115 maybe??? |

I dont think he quite scores that yet, but will when he's done growing.. Its up to you.. Do what you got to do... Letting him go this year all depends on your hunting pressure around the area and your chances of keeping him in your area.

RE: decisions decisions
I agree he looks like a 2.5 year old. Yes he looks like he could become a good buck if
given time. However if there is extreme hunting pressure around you he may be a shooter now. Trophy bucks are alwaysrelative from location to location. If he is a shooter to you, take him and be proud of a fine bowkill. |
RE: decisions decisions
Yeah, don't make the mistake of setting your local standards by what these lucky midwest bums post on here :Dor what you see on tv shows. I suspect he'll be a 115 or 125" class buck which I think is nothing to sneeze at in NY. Sure there's bigger in the state but how many bigger one's do you have on your wall? If you get the chance take him and enjoy having him on your wall. That will give you a bar to beat next year. Now, I will say if you finda pic of a bigger buck in your area later on you may want to hold out. Especially if you're only allowed one buck a year.
