Who still shoots aluminum arrows!

Just curious. Seems like everyone is using carbons.

I use them for deer because if they break off in a deer the shred and get little fibers everywhere

I jump back and forth. Right now I am shooting Aluminums again and plan on hunting with them this fall. Next year Iprobably will be shooting carbons.. who knows. Not sure why I do this but it keeps me happy. Wife and son give me a lot a grief about it. Heck notuncommon for me to change half way through hunting season. :D

I've got carbons for my new hunting compound (since it's a beast and the Al arrows would be the size of tree trunks) but for my older bows and all of my tradtional/non-compound bows I use aluminium.

I used aluminums last year for indoor spots shooting. I may shoot them again this year, or I may shoot the newer 30X pros.....not sure which.

I have three friends that still use there old school Easton's XX75's. Nothing wrong with them.. I have not seen anything wrong with them. I would probably still be using them but I got a dozen carbons for my birthday last year....

Switched back to carbon's this year. I love the old XX75's...nothing at all wrong with them.

The new carbon's I have are shooting really good though!!!

I prefer aluminum .
The only advantage I've seen with carbons is straightness and speed. I shoot a recurve so speed isn't a big factor for me , and those plastic vanes just get in the way , mine are feather fletched. I tend to get more fliers with the carbons that I've tried , and the cost is somewhat prohibitive .

I have had good luck with the XX75s so why change? I have
shot both deer and grouse with them. Also I find the lighter
arrows are harder for me to control.

I use aluminum... always have. Someday if gas goes lower I may just switch to Carbon or Carbon/Aluminum. But gas going back down.. is just a pipe dream!

RE: Who still shoots aluminum arrows!

I actually switched from carbons to aluminums. I just think they are a better arrow after using both. There are a lot of myths surrounding carbon arrows that make people believe they are a better arrow. The really expensive ones are pretty good, but the cheap ones that cost about as much as aluminum are not any better if not worse in some cases as far as quality control goes.

Just because the box or the specs say it is a certain straightness doesn't really mean it is. Buy a few dozen cheap arrows and put them on a jig with a dial indicator or a spine tester and see what happens. And that whole thing about either being straight or broken is one of the biggest myths. They can and do go bad, both warping and losing spine.

I have never damaged an aluminum that would not have ruined a carbon as well in the same instance. Now if you are careless and don't take very good care of your arrows, then carbons are cool. you can step on them or lay something on them and it probably will not hurt them. However if you glance one of something hard, or another arrow hits one, just because it still looks good doesn't mean it is. Sometimes they can break on the inside and you don't even know it right away.

I sold all of mine on Ebay for exactly what I paid for them ...missed up fletching and all. When you got an old bow you need all the leverage you can get. Carbons are awesome. I found a Redhead 31"once in a public WMA. I shot it at my target and have been hooked ever since.

I still shoot alum. and i am not having any problems with them, some hunters prefer the heavier arrows.
