RE: have you passed up a BUCK

i have passed 17 up this year so far two that would meet p&g this week but there is a hog of a buck in the area that makes these boys look like spikes and i want a crack at him and the only way to do it is let them walk,no matter how bad it hurts.

I have passed on some nice ones, of course I live in the Kootenai National forest along the Kanadian border also. Had a 5pt that was 130's and drew back on it at 18 yrds and let up. Maybe I screwed up by not shooting it but I am holding out for the 170 plus and the season is still early as I am only allowed one deer for the season, so I want a good one.

Yes sir, if you want to tag a nice one you've got to be willing to let the little ones go. If it's meat you want then take a doe.Of course I live in IL where the bucks do tend to be good sized. Still I wouldn't want anything less tan a 130 to 140 class animal. Last year the best buck I had within &quot;easy&quot; range was a 130ish 8 point, I didn't want him then (late October) but would of taken him in late December<img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle> Of course the &quot;trophy hunter&quot; must be willing to eat his share of tag sandwhich and track soup every season.

In the end it is strictly personal. I say GO WITH THE BUZZ and if it feels right... DO IT!!!

Yes, I've passed on about a dozen different bucks so far this year, many of them more than once. One particular buck I was arguing with myself about so he better not come in range again in the next two weeks. <img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

Off the top of my head I can think of eight that I have passed on so far this season. It wasn't that big of deal really, none were big for this area. One did have nice mass and neat horns but he was so narrow that I let him walk by.

A guy starts second guessing himself when you let the good ones go. Last year I let a nice 125 class and about 140 class buck walk hoping to get a chance at them this year when they should by whoppers. As fate would have it I can't hunt the property this year.<img src=icon_smile_sad.gif border=0 align=middle>

I passed on a nice 10pt this year????/// Oh thats right,,,I shot over his back. Does that qualify for passing on a buck. <img src=icon_smile_blush.gif border=0 align=middle> I did pass on a nice heavy 8 the first year I started bow hunting. I had all ready shot a 6pt and was trying to fill a doe tag and the darn thing came within 5 yrds and I couldn't shoot it. It was fun to see him though.
