whats the best scent eliminator
What brand of scent killer have you had the best luck with? I just ran out of Scent Killer Autumn Formula i thought it worked well but a few deer and the buck im after acted like something was suspicious when they were around. I make sure everything is sprayed down before i go out.Is there something else that i should be using? Thanks |
RE: whats the best scent eliminator
Use a scent neutralizer on everything, and then just put a little bit of the autumn formula on. Too much of the autumn formula is not natural and will make deer very suspicious.

RE: whats the best scent eliminator
i seem to have good luck with scent sheild but i think any of them are going to do basicly the same thing.i personaly believe no matter how scent free your body and clothes are, your mouth is not.i also believe, short of sealing ourselfs in plastic bags its impossible to be totaly scent free.

RE: whats the best scent eliminator
I use the HS scent eliminator kit....soap, laundry detergent etc.
I wash my clothes (not scent suppresscent) in the stuff, use one of the handy dryer sheets and then put it in a sealed bag with some cut limbs and branches. Then before heading into the woods I spray my bow, stand, boots etc. with the spray. So far, so good....the other day I was still hunting a field edge and had a group of does less than 20 yards from me with the wind at my back blowing right to them...they got real spooky trying to figure out what the bush was doing moving around....but never did flag me...just kept eating with one eye on me......made me a believer. |
RE: whats the best scent eliminator
I've had pretty good luck with washing all my outer garments in Scent Killer, then packing them in a rubbermaid container stacked with either pine boughs or corn stalks. My very outer garment is a scent locker leafy 3D so it goes in the scent-lock bag when 'activated'.
When I get to the field I dress - then spray down my boots & outer clothing pretty heavy with plain 'ol scent killer - the yellow bottle stuff. I walk to my stand and about 150 yards from it I shoot my legs & boots again - with the standard scent killer. Once in the stand I hit my chest & legs with 2 quick shots of autumn formuala or fall blend - not much - just a shot. I am at my best shooting without my scentlocker hood so I am concerned with mouth odor - to combat this it's Jolly Ranchers - all Apple if I can swing it. The sweet smell of them don't seem to bother the deer and last week I even was blowing AT a doe that was withing 5 feet of my stand - and downwind. She was doing the head dipsy-doodle but never really winded me. My $0.02 <img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle> Aim small miss small |
RE: whats the best scent eliminator
For scent elimination I use Ghost by Headhunter and as a cover scent their humus scent. Now I've used scent killer and the HS scent eliminator brands with varied success. So I decided to scope out -n- test all kinda different brands.....My wife found the Headhunter stuff and I haven't used anythang since...that was 2 yrs ago.By far in my opinion the best scent elimination system around(and no i DON'T WORK 4 THEM)I've had deer as close as 7 -10 yrds away from me(I ground hunt) and not have the slightest clue I was there.
If god didn't want us to eat animals....Why did he make them outa meat? |

RE: whats the best scent eliminator
I've had a buck within 5 yards of me using diluted baking soda. I was sitting at the base of a tree.
I wash my clothes, take a bath and brush my teeth with Arm & Hammer. After bathing, I put some dry under my arms and on my feet. I dissolve some in a spray bottle and spray my boots and bow. Works. Cheap. A large box lasts all season. |
RE: whats the best scent eliminator
I have been making my own for years 8oz of hydrogen peroxide 3% 16oz of distilled or rain water 1/4 cup baking soda I leave out the soap and I have walked in on the same deer trail several days in a row and deer still use them.If you use a good scent killer no need for a cover scent! They say a deer can pick out and identify 20 diffrent smells at the same time. I just mist every thing down in the am and it works all day long. I also use cheap chemical suits available from several surplus outfits. They also work great only wear them to and from your stand and tumble in the dryer every couple days with a 1/4 cup of soda for 10-15 min.
