I've just about had it with the idiot neighbors poaching the deer around my dad's property. Last bow season I watched them drive their four wheel drive truck through their fields shooting guns out the window. Then I watched them load two deer into the back of the truck after dark. These guys shoot deer all year long. My dad is reluctant to turn them in for fear of retaliation against his property. He just puts up with it. We work too hard all year long planting food plots, hanging stands, etc. to have it ruined by these idiots. Anybody else having a problem with poachers?

I know exactly what that feeling is like, but you find yourself living not for yourself or what you deserve. These individuals have no respect, and as suchshould begivenany satisfaction. The way I feel now is that I will do what I need to to protect myself, my property and what I have worked for. I'll deal with consequences of my actions as they happen, but not before.

If your dad won't call....why don't you? I'm assuming you know how to use a phone. Next time you see them load a couple deer in their truck, call it in. There is no way they will be able to remove all traces of deer by time the warden shows.

These guys are breaking the laws and need to be stopped. Period.

I gotta agree sumthin needs to be done. You and your dad have worked to hard on your property and you cant let a couple of idiots ruin it for you guys. I video tape them and get the lincense plate number and all that good stuff. good luck.

We have people poach on us frequently.. I found bloody fletchings near my favorite stand!!!, we found two stands on our property and they stole my game camera!. Its amazing we havnt caught anyone, since we hunt the property freqently and it is only 200 yrds from the houses! The problem is our property is borded by railroad tracks and on the other side of them is a trailer park... Thankfully a gamewarden recently married into the family.. this year we will catch them...are going to persecute to the full extent of the law...

I can understand your dads reluctance. Sometimes it is easier to look away than to take the problem face on. These days you never know what kind of people you are dealing with. I say be ready for them poaching bastards this year, get vedio, the game warden, and your local police involved. Most law breakers hate going to jail and will move on to a new area with their crime. If by chance these are the type that will retaliate and try and make your life hell, than count me in on the ass whipping party. I mean what I say and I'm sure there are atleast a dozen other men here who will meet there at our own expense. Tell your dad that.

I would believe that most states will allow you to remain anonymous as well. Most poachers cave when pressured by the wardens and no court appearance needed. You just need good proof. Good luck.

I view poaching in two ways.. The kind that is being discussed here is the worst kind and they should be dealt with accordingly. I think you should definitely call your local game officials.. If you need help with retaliation problems.. I will be more than happy to drive out and bounce a few a-holes like that.

According to state law any deer shot out of season is considered poached as well. In bloomsburg where I used to hunt on a regular basis one guy was prosecuted for poaching because he shot 2 deer out of season so he could feed his family. I dont think the guy should have been fined as much as he was.

My dad bought the place two years ago. These people are neighbors who own 80 acres behind us. They've lived there for over 20 years. Real savages. They've been violating for years. I've had the phone in my hand several times and my dad asked me to hang it up because he doesn't want any trouble being the new guy on the block. I'm just respecting his wishes since he owns the place. If it were my property I'd have already reported them. I think this year if it continues he'll finally turn them in. The good news is their place is up for sale. I hope it sells before bow season! If I had the money I'd buy it myself.

I feel your pain. My partners and I have poachers on our property as well. We have just a big a problem with kids 4-wheeling on the property. I've had them run practically right under my stand before.

First thing you need to do is to be sure the property is POSTED. In some states like NC the state requires an owner to POST a property if he expects the law to get involved.

Have you tried call them yet?

I hate poachers they are the scurge that labels us in the same light as them to the non-hunting public. Respect your dad, but call a friend and have them report it. It hurts us all!


I chased this.......what had been a 200+ huge non-typ for two years only to have him shot from the road at night during archery season with a rifle by an scum of the earth poacher. Hang em high I say.

Have you spoken with your local game warden?A conversation would be in order,maybe they are closing in on these poachers.Maybe you could help them set up a sting.You are not required to provide your name when calling the poaching hotlines.
I do agree that you should follow your dads wishes though.Your relationship with him is more important than your disdain for the poachers.Hopefully with the property for sale with a little patience they will no longer be an issue.Hopefully they move very far away!
I hate poachers,they steal from all of us who go about it the right way!Most game departments are under funded.Our local game warden is a client of mine and he has told me straight out that he cannot get over time to do an after hours sting.They are spread way to thin and can't get over time to be in the field when they need to the most.
How can you be effective under those circumstances?

we have that problem at one of our farms but we dont know who does it so there is a big field in front of the road and the deer come out in it after dark and they shoot them from the road it sucks especially because we dont know who does it and to beat it all they just leave them laying, last year it was a doe and a fawn

I know Montana has "1800 tip mont" to report illegal acitivity. The caller can remain completley anonymous in reporting poachers etc. You or your Dad might want to look into seeing if your state has that.

I feel your pain. I hunt public land and during the early archery season while I was camping in the wilderness, I would hear rifle shotsstarting at 10pm and ending off at 1am. I have never seen anybody just heard them. At least 10-15 shots a night and I could tell that most were connecting. It was nice during the day I wouldn't see another soul and thought that my chances were good to see some decent bucks b4 the gun hunters shot up the woods....... sadly mistaken. Some people are allowed to hunt all year round and b/c they have the right they take every chance. But even for these people they aren't allowed to discharge a firearm at night.
No cell phone service in the pine forrest where I hunt and about 20min drive to get toa spot where I could get service[>:]. I hate poachers! The conservation officers have taken to digging pits in the natural pastures that are connected to the roads,trust me I've dropped my truck in one while retrieving a deer years ago but it stops thespotlighters from going too far in the bush.They have also taken down bridges so that poachers had less routes out of the woods...... the bridge used to go over the brokenhead river and now people just drive through it. I'm sure demolishing the bridge was well thought out[&o], more pollution for the river and it hasn't stopped anybody from crossing

if you dont want to turn them in have a buddy or someone call and give an anonomous tip, mabey the game commission or whatever it is in your state can catch them in the act. Visual evidence would really help, and chances are if they poaching deer their probably doing other illegal stuff so if you get proof it would help. dont let them push you around its your land not theirs if you show your serious they should leave you alone

That's the lamest excuse I've ever heard for shooting a deer out of season. He's too broke to buy food, but he has the money to own a high powered rifle and the ammo?!? Why not just sell the damn gun if you're that broke. That was probably just him trying to tug at someone's heart strings to get some sympathy. Poaching is poaching...I would not be afraid of those guys and if it were my property this was happening on I'd put a stop to it immediately

In my books, Poachers are the scum of the earth. It is troubling knowing the type of people we share this world with. I spend the time, money and effort planting food plots, scouting, opening trails--don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining as I do enjoy this part of it also--but it pains when these worthless beings show up and do as they like.
I can understand your Dad fears of starting a fire with his neighbors--I'm in the same boat--worse yet, I don't live on my farm--so my cabin, tool shed, etc are all left alone at one time or another.
I've just invested in a Cuddeback Noflash, my plan is the get those suckers on film so at least I have an idea who they are.

i beleive that you folks need to do something about these guys and if you dont then it is possible that it could get worse and worse. And yes there are two kinds of poachers the ones who shoot out of season just to kill and the ones who need the meat to feed their family.
