RE: POLL - Treestand vs. Still Hunting
Hmmmmm.... Let's see:
#1) Anything that flies, runs, walks, crawls, etc... :) #2) Still hunting from a ground blind. I don't have a tree stand yet. #3) That's a toughy... Probably Turkey and Deer. Canadian geese too. #4) 0. I'm a newbie as of last season! #5) I own these: ......Marlin Model 60 .22LR ......Remington 870 Express 12GA (lefty) ......PSE Centerflite Edge 1000 compound bow (lefty) Butch ![]() |
RE: POLL - Treestand vs. Still Hunting
Pred, we may have had some differences on the other post, but I don't hold a grudge.
1)Whitetails, Feral Hogs/Boar 2)Stand hunting 90% Stalking 10% (Now that I've moved back up to the northeast it's probably more like 99% stand hunting, since stalking is very difficult in the crunchy leaves and I have yet to master the "Indian walk") 3)I do love the serenity of relaxing in a treestand and sometimes when I'm stand hunting I won't even take the bow off the hook because I don't want to disturb my surroundings. On the other hand, if the wind is right a good stalk really gets the heart pumping. 4)Success rate lately has been very high. I get at least one deer every season I hunt and I hunt in multiple states that have multiple seasons. I have been very fortunate the last few years. 5)Yes I rifle hunt, but more to spend time with that group of hunting buddies. Bowhunting is my first priority. This is a good thread. I can't wait to see others' replies. |
RE: POLL - Treestand vs. Still Hunting
1. Whitetail, turkey - some predator hunting.
2. (bow)Stand Hunting - 80%; still hunting 20% - No Ground blinds 2a.(gun)stand Hunting - 50%; Still hunting 30% - Ground blind 20% 3. Stand hunting, I love the science of it, and the radical departure from my normally fast paced life. 4. Success rate - tough question - I might relocate my stand(s) a dozen times before a good shot is taken is this like 8%?- I take a decent buck every other year with a bow, and a doe each year usually, Plus a deer or two every gun season. If success is a deer taken every year, I do all right. Sometimes my most successful hunts, are when I FIGURE A DEER OUT - and no shot is taken. 5. I do not rifle hunt for deer - shotgun/muzzeloader where I am. I do rifle hunt for coyotes and fox in the winter and enjoy that alot. ![]() |
RE: POLL - Treestand vs. Still Hunting
1) What GAME do you usually hunt?
Whitetail deer, Turkeys, and maybe the odd bird or two 2) What METHODS do you use for bowhunting & HOW OFTEN (%)? Still hunting (5%), Tree Stand (15%) , Ground blind (80%) 3) What is your FAVORITE? Lol, at darn near 300#, I am right partial to staying on the ground, hiding in a blind or blowdown. 4) What is your SUCCESS rate for all the seasons that you've bow hunted? (%) Ummm, not all that high if we are just considering archery. Somewhere in the neighborhood of 8%...if my ciphering is correct. 5) Do you rifle hunt? No. About the closest thing to rifle hunting I do is muzzleloading. Rifles larger than .22 are illegal to hunt with in my area of the state. The powers that be have seen fit to let us at least use a shotgun, instead of a slingshot....for now. Those who wish to appear wise among fools, among the wise seem foolish. RE: POLL - Treestand vs. Still Hunting
1) What GAME do you usually hunt?
Mainly whitetail, but occasionally I'll go waterfowling 2) What METHODS do you use for bowhunting & HOW OFTEN (%)? 95% Stand; 5% Still 3) What is your FAVORITE? Bowhunting for whitetail in my treestand 4) What is your SUCCESS rate for all the seasons that you've bow hunted? (%) This is only my 3rd full year of bowhunting. Was shut out the first year, but harvested one last year and got one this past Sunday...so I guess that's 2 out of 3 or 66%. 5) Do you rifle hunt? IL doesn't have a rife season, but I do go during the shotgun season(s). |
RE: POLL - Treestand vs. Still Hunting
1. Whitetail; rabbit and squirel; maybe next year Turkey
2. Ground blind and still hunting (50/50) 3. Both are favorites 4. I define success as getting in position for a shot; 100% per season. Per outing I would estimate 33% (1 day out of 3) 5. No but I've been thinking about black powder hunting. |
RE: POLL - Treestand vs. Still Hunting
1) game hunted: Coyote, bobcat, mule and whitetail deer, elk, upland birds, dove, antelope.
2) methods of bowhunting: spot and stalk, ground blind, and tree stand 3) facorite: calling predators is my favorite 4) Success with bow: nearly 100%. only bow hunted last two years and have taken 2 P&Y bucks, 1 mule and 1 whitetail, and 4 does and 1 coyote this fall. 5) Rifle hunt: Yes, usually while predator calling, used to hunt deer with rifle, and hunt elk and antelope with rifle. |
RE: POLL - Treestand vs. Still Hunting
1> Whitetail, turkey, phesant, coyote
2> Stand-95% Still-5% 3> Stand hunting whitetails 4> I missed the '83 season while being deployed at sea, other than that one; 100%. 5> Only for coyote. My second favorite season is muzzleloader. Only one year with no deer. It's nice to look forward to putting a fat and sassy doe in the freezer but then my bow usually gets one before the blackpowder season. GForce Shoot often - Hunt always |
RE: POLL - Treestand vs. Still Hunting
Deer
Treestand for bowhunting 100% Success rate is usually 50-75%. Yes I rifle hunt. Hunt the thickets |
