I have the chance to take lessons from an Olympic archer!!
 

This is ssssoo cool. I just started shooting a bow about 5-6 monthes ago and have been doing fairly well. Well to make a long story short the archery shops daughter is an olympian and they were talking about how she might come back from college to teach classes and I am like saweet. Well I finally got around to calling and they are starting in 2 weeks. And the coolest thing about it is it is 7 weeks for only 50 bucks!! I am so exited I could wet my pants. I thought it would be like 200-300 bucks but man this is cool. Just thought I would let everyone know.

You do realize that olympians use recurves, right? Which is a good thing... Perhaps she can show several you that a recurve bow is an extremely effective weapon! I only wish I were as lucky as you!!

The olympics arent only for recurves. I dont think, correct me if I am wrong.

That's cool and all and sounds like a good price. Question? Is she a recognized and certified archery instructor? Or just someone that shoots well? There is a big difference sometimes. Not all archers that shoot well can teach, and not all great coaches are world class archers. Most sports are like this. In order to be an instructor or coach you don't need to be really good at the particular sport. Just have an excellent knowledge of the mechanics behind it, and have the ability to get others to grasp it.

College can be the same way. Some professors are very good in their fields, but unfortunately can't teach worth a lick.

Either way I doubt it will hurt any, good luck. Archery lessons in my area from a certified instructor that was also on the Olympic archery team cost around 25 bucks for a half an hour. That is for private one on one lessons. I would assume what you are talking about is a group class.

Sure doesn't mean that she can not shoot a compound though.;)

Most traditional folks can, no problem. That is, if they don't consider it against their principles.

Personally, I don't have anything against compounds, just find them boring lately.

Congrats on your upcoming lessons. I'm sure they will benefit your archery skills. Noticed you've been shooting for 5 or 6 months, and it's great to have newbies taking up the bow. Don't wanna wet in your Wheaties, but remember that target shooting and hunting a critter are two very different situations. Deer duck, and canmove just when you release. Twigs at twilight can make for an all night tracking job, etc., etc... Proper form and practice can allow you to put 10 out of 10 arrows in a 9" pie plate at 50 yards, but when your heart's trying to jump out of your shirt andit's an alertdeer at 50 yards,he's about 30 yards out of range. That's what makes bow huntin such a blast. Gotta get em close.

thats great if your going to learn to hunt targets but lets see how olympic archers do with a compound in a tree. but
