practicing from stand

RE: practicing from stand
When I practice from a stand I make sure the shot counts. I will wear my full hunting outfit, from the face mask to the wool socks. I will take one arrow in the stand with me and act like it is a true hunting situation. Each shot takes about 15 minutes to complete. It takesso long because itrequires me to climb in my climber, strap my stand in, and hoist my bow up. I then follow my shooting procedure, all the while thinking I am shooting at a deer. Although it is time consuming, it is how I practice- one shot at a time.

I put a hang on stand and climbing sticks up on a tree in my yard. My quiver holds 5 arrows and I shoot all of them into my deer target. Then I climb down and do it again. I start to practice with all my gear in August. This time of year I just use gloves and mask. I just got my deer target out today and will hang the yard stand soon. It is a progression for me. I go from the bag to the deer, then from the ground to the tree and then from feild tips to BHs. I shoot year round I just get more "hunting ready" as the season gets closer.

I use to use my neighbors deck. I still can but I built a deck a little over a year ago which gives me more height over my target just like I'm in the stand. My neighbors gave me close to 20' above the target when I shoot out 20+ yrds. My deck gives me 30'+ when shooting beyond 15 yrds.
I want to get a feeder below the deck so I can have a little fun as well this fall while reducing myPIA deer population.

I use a 10 ft step ladder on my deck, it puts me about 13 feet up, most of my stands are 15 foot ladder stands.
I think keeping my balance on the ladder helps me when the deer show up and my knees are shaking!

I am lucky that on post at fort Drum there is an area that before 9/11 they gave the shooting test for post. It has 2 10 foot stands with ladders going up to the platform. So just climb the ladder, shoot, hang your bow on a hook, climb down, recover arrows then back up. What helps is I have two 3D targets and a block so I can shoot 5-6 arrows before I come down so that helps! Guess just some extra excercise prior to the season! [8D]

I have a walk around porch that goes around 3 sides of my house. At the back its 18 feet high so it works out perfect, walk out onto a little viewing balcony, shoot, walk down and get my arrows.
