I have a 1996 PSE Thunderbolt that I had no intention of upgrading from but a friend was selling a 2003 LX Matthews for $250.00 that I coulden't pass up. So I guess I upgraded by default. I think most people upgrade because they think their missing somthing by not having all the Bells and Whistels. But for me if it still kills deer its for me. With the new (to me) Mathews I began using carbon arrows for the first time. I shot 6 deer with my old PSE and aluminum arrows last year so do you really think I needed the update. Good luck in which ever you decide. Mike

Bought my UltraTec in February. As far as how old is too old....well, if there is nothing wrong mechanically, it will still shoot. Just do some maintenance work on it. Grease the limb pockets, new strings, that kind of stuff. If it is mechanically sound, theoretically it will shoot forever.

1987 Bear Whitetail II and 2005 Mathews Outback. Both shoot well. I like the Mathews a little better .
